Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You are free to live and work in any province.

Thanks a lot. Much appreciated. I wonder why they asked then!

There are some immigration streams where you can be sponsored by a province on the basis that you take up a job in that province.

    Hi all,

Quick question I was wondering if anyone had any experience with. Does anyone know how renewing my passport would effect my POE?

I received my POE in June and don't plan on using it until 2015, as they'll only issue a work permit for the length of your passport I thought about getting mine renewed so as to get the full 2 years out of it.

Does anyone know how this would effect my POE, would they need to/be willing to issue a new one?

    Thanks

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help me.

I uploaded my documents for stage 2 on the 12th of Sept. Police certificates from UK and Ireland were dated the 26th of August 2014. I received a message from CiC saying:IN ORDER TO COMPLETE YOUR APPLICATION, AT THIS TIME, WE ONLY REQUIRE a Police Certificate from the United Kingdom, issued by the ACPO Criminal Records Office within 3 months from the date you submitted your stage 2 application.

This must be received at this office by: 2014/12/19 I just resubmitted the Police certificate from the UK issued on the 26th of Aug 14 as this was within the 3 months. I am now worried that they may have requested a police certificate after the 12th of Sept. Anyone know of a similar situation that can help? Or is there a way I can contact CIC to find out?

Anyone know how to submit a form in my case police certificate while the stage is open or do I just wait till they ask for additional documentation?

    Guys, quick question!
I'm in an unusual situation, I need to be in Canada before April 1st, or my letter expires and I can't get a VISA. However, I started a job recently that I quite like, and don't want to leave it - I also don't want to miss the opportunity to live in Canada.

If I arrive for a short holiday (a week or 2) before my POE expires, get my VISA and SSN, then return to Ireland - live and work in Ireland until April 2016 - Can I return to Canada that month, and stay for the remainder of my VISA (12 months)?

I'm curious if there is a rule that states: "Once you obtain your visa, you must stay in Canada for 24 months/ can't leave Canada and return in excess of 90 days" or something. Can anyone clarify? I took a look at the FAQ and didn't notice anything. Thanks!
I might be getting confused with insurance expiring.... hopefully I am.

    EDIT: (I'm an idiot)

"During the validity of your work permit, you may leave and re-enter Canada as many times as you wish. However, you must ensure that you meet the entrance requirements of the country you plan to visit."

    Hey,

I've been thinking about heading over to Canada in the new year, but it occurred to me that I have no idea what the next step is after completing stage two of the application process.

I got my POE and then procrastinated for a little while because, as far as I know, that's the last hurdle. So, now what?

I'm confident the answer lies somewhere in these pages, but it is a very long thread.

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

I'm in the same boat; I had to delay for a while but I'm hoping to head over early next year.

As far as I remember, the most important things to have, other than the POE, are health insurance and (I think) at least €3000 in the bank when you arrive. Also, don't forget to get a 24 month visa, as you are Irish and entitled to twice as long as everyone else. (There were some stories of Irish people only getting twelve month visas because they did not check the documents they were given and did not remind immigration or whoever it was on the gates when they arrived in Canada).

Naturally, you'd be wise to at least have a hostel lined up for your first few nights as well, if you aren't staying with friends or anything.

    I think that's all. Good luck :)

Yes just bring your POE letter, evidence of health/travel insurance and a recent bank statement showing you have the required amount (I thought it was only $2500 which was required but could be wrong).

Also its a good idea to bring a drivers abstract and record of your no claims bonus from insurance company if your planning to drive over there.

FOLKS WHO MADE IT TO CANADA!

How are ye getting on? Do ye have any advice for people heading over soon?

I'm thinking of heading to Calgary, any pointers etc would be hugely appreciated.

How did the job hunt go? Did ye get something fairly quick?

    Cheers,

Hello all , hope everyone is getting on well saving/planning etc!

Have a POE that is valid until this June , but have since decided to take a post grad instead of emigrating. I was wondering would it be possible for me to reapply for IEC in maybe two years time or would there be an issue with that seeing as I won't be using the visa this time?

Asked this question a few weeks back too.

Unfortunately, if you have received your LOI (Letter of Introduction) then this counts as participation in the IEC program and renders you ineligible for future participation, even if you have not entered Canada to activate the visa. I asked CIC themselves about this and they confirmed that it is only possible to re-apply if your country allows multiple participations - those countries who are granted a one year visa with the option of a one year extension. This used to be the case for Ireland, but we are now granted the two year visa on day one and, as a result, are ineligible to re-apply for the same visa once we participate.

You do, however, have other options under the young professional route or under the federal skilled worker program. These are a little harder to get, but not impossible for someone with a Level 9 education (which you will have). The only sticking point with the federal program is the requirement for experience in a listed profession where Canada is short on qualified candidates and a job offer (this is not a requirement, but adds to your points total when being assessed for eligibility). The plus side of the FSW program is that it is a permanent residency.

    Hope this helps. :D

I'm in a similar-ish position, have the visa but haven't been able to save enough to be able to get over there. Then before xmas I got offered a very good job giving me good experience in my field. I don;t want to quit the job and dont want to lose the visa either so I'm going to go on a holiday for a week or two before the year is up. Then next year when I have some more experience I'm going to go over for a year.

billyduk's post was exactly the answer I was wondering about but had not yet asked/looked into, thanks.

So intending to book flights for the 20th of March from Heathrow to Tornoto for 2 days, so I can collect my permit. (My POE expires on April 1st, so need to get permit before expiry - also, I'm working in London the week of 23rd, so it's handy for me)

[I still intend to relocate to Canada soon, but can't right now due to personal circumstance and don't want to miss the final chance date for collection!]

    Some quick checks:
    - Arrive in Toronto
    - Have POE
    - Have proof of funds
    - Have proof of 2 year insurance

Obtain permit from immigration, check out the city for 2 nights, return to London, take comfort in the knowledge I can live & work in Canada for 24 months, correct?

I wanna make sure I've got my sh*t together before I book my travel!

    Thanks.
    :)

Do you have to apply for your SIN to get your visa stamp after showing them your POE, or do you apply for that AFTER you are given entry and when you intend to start working? I ask this question, because I am going over on a short activation trip before heading back in the summer for good, and I just wanted to know whether I'd have to apply for my SIN on the activation trip or whether it can wait until I go back for good.

Thanks for any help in advance!

You get your visa at the airport when you show your POE. To get the SIN number you go to a Service Canada Centre with your visa, passport, address etc.

    Hi,

Flying out March 20th, returning early March 23rd - Have POE (expires on April 1st) ready and showing a fresh bank statement with min 2,500 Canadian dollars won't be an issue.

However, since I'm only travelling for the weekend, is normal travel insurance adequate? I don't want to shell out for 2 years, which will expire if I leave Canada for more than 30 days AFAIK... - I know there is a 14 day cooling off window with some policies and you can cancel it, but I'd rather not chase the insurance company for weeks to try and get my money back afterwards.

Anyone with experience or knows someone who popped over purely to collect their paperwork, let me know!

    Thanks!

What are the current best deals? €350 seems to be about average at the moment.

I found USIT's flights + insurance deal decent enough (if you don't mind multiple stopovers...). €741 for the flight and 2 years insurance with winter sports cover,

Their insurance is decent (and tailored for IEC) but you can only book flights with airlines they have agreements with.
The flights ended up costing me a lot more, and had to fly to Toronto instead of Vancouver because of how restrictive USIT's flight deals are.

Yeah, Delta are the airline they have an agreement with. Like I said, two stopovers isn't great but they're getting me all the way to Vancouver for a decent price so I won't complain.

Worried about cutting it too fine here!

My POE expires April 16th and my work made me give 8 weeks notice so I won't go to canada until a few days before. Hope it all goes smoothly....

Just need to get insurance then I'm sorted

    Plus money in account

Does anyone know if insurance is checked if you return to Canada after initially getting your IEC Visa. To explain: I'm flying in next Thursday, getting my IEC Visa, and spending a week, before flying home again for 2 months to finish a contract on a job Im doing. On my return again, will I be asked again for insurance or will the passport control just see I already have the Visa and stamp me through?

I think my insurance is single use only....hence the question.

Hi everyone, I have a question that I can't ask on facebook because the wrong people will see it. Myself and my girlfriend applied for the working holiday 2014 visa and got in the quota, we had uploaded most of our documents and my dad got sick so we decided to pull out both our visas as we weren't sure if we would be able to go in time. Now we are thinking about going in the next while again and just wondering if applying before could affect us. I have also seen that people are still getting offered places on the 2014 visa. I wonder is is possible to reactivate the applications? Thanks for any help.

Did you get a POE (the very last stage)? If you did then no.

If you just got the CAL, or started the MyCIC then you can reapply.

No we didn't get our POE, just got the CAL. So you think we can just reapply for the 2014 visa??

How do you prove funds? I don't have a full postal statement, but would an e-statement, one of those ****ty yokes you can print in a branch, do the trick? I don't know if that has your name on it though does it?

They probably won't check (They didn't check mine on Friday, all I had was a mini statement anyway)
But if they do, you'll want a full statement/ printed e-statement with your details included on it. Mini statement (from BOI, anyway) doesn't have any personal information unfortunately.

Is it out of the question to have $2,000 CAD in cash? I don't keep my money under a mattress but I do keep it in a drawer, and I've inexplicably left it a little late to lodge and I'm worried that it won't show on a statement in time.

Well, as far as I know, you need $2,500 minimum funds. So that's your first problem. I can't see how carrying cash would be an issue though. Unless the rules explicitly state you cannot carry cash...

Well as you don't have a bank account set up like most do when they go to Australia it can be hard to determine funds, but if you have a credit card put all your cash into that then use something like currency fair to transfer to your new Canadian Bank.

Another option take a screen garb of you funds in your account the day before you leave save that on your phone or print it off. You could also have $1000 Canadian Dollars on your wallet too.

I don't know if cash goes towards funds, I guess it might? This is on the site though regarding carrying money, which isn't a problem for you

If you arrive in Canada with CAN$10,000 or more, you must tell the CBSA officer. If you do not, you could be fined or put in prison. These funds could be in the form of:

For the duration of your insurance cover. So if your insurance expires after a week, they might give you a visa which expires in a week.

Basically they don't want you being in the country on your work permit without health insurance, now or at any point in the next two years.
