Just seen this on the B4RN Facebook page:
    Toilet Roll. 50p a roll for 27.4 metres. £27.40 a km = £0.0274p per metre
    Fibre (singlemode, G657A1) Fibre = €5.64/km = €0.00564/m = £0.004 per metre.
Do the maths Digital Britain, Fibre is cheaper than toilet roll.
(copper recycling would bring in £3400 / tonne).

Just to give you a little more encouragement for Upottery in particular, B4RN just submitted an application to the EC's Broadband Implementation - Best Practices award. We included a photograph of the type of terrain where they ARE PROVIDING 100% 1 Gbps SYMMETRIC services at ANY DISTANCE to ALL properties WITHOUT EXCEPTION for only £30.00 per month. There are still some up there without mains water and electricity. You know them when you see the solar panels and little windmills as you get on canal boat-homes. You very soon learn that walking boots are MUCH warmer than wellies !

    27.4 metres ........ 50p

    1,000 metres (1KM) ..... £ ((50/27.4)*1000}/100 = £18.25 per kilometre

    or

    27.4 metres for 50p = 54.8 metres per £1 so 1000 metres would cost
    £ 1000/54.8 = £18.25

It seems toilet paper is not as costly as is stated ;)

(still a very good comparison with fibre at £4 per kilometre :D )

Does fibre only cost €5.64 per Kilometre ?
