Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

NCT fail - airbag light 97 Starlet

My car failed on 2 things today one is an easy fix but the other was because the airbag light didn't come on. I come back home and checked on the internet to find that in a 97 Starlet the airbag light does not illuminate on start-up. I can't find any official Toyota documentation on it and the tester will just think I'm making it up. Has anyone else managed to get this sorted before?

There have been several mentions of this in the past, as far as I recall it is a basic "mechanical" system. I'm guessing it failed because an airbag light should have come on then gone off. But I don't think these cars turn on the light, may not even have a light.

Search for older threads. You may need a letter or something from toyota dealer.

How did it manage to pass previous NCTs?

    Tester ineptitude as per usual.

This is the second time I've had this car tested. It passed 6 months ago. I guess last time the tester knew how a mechanical airbag system works. I'm just looking for info on how to deal with a tester that doesn't understand.

I had this issue before with a 1999 Fiat Seicento.
I had to take the car to a Fiat dealer for them to verify the system and then I got a letter from Fiat head office (customer service manager) stating the reg/chassis/engine numbers detailing that the car had a mechanical system.

It cost me money for the incompetence of the staff in the nct test centre!

Did it take long to get that done? My NCT is out in 3 days.
I don't see why I should be out of pocket because of a testers incompetence.

I think that the turn around was about 3/4 days.
