Wooden cabinet > kitchen top?

Hey I have this big cabinet I's like to use as a worktop in my kitchen Is there any way I can get a coating put on it, so the cabinet itself is a worktop? my other idea was just some sort of varnishing, and put some glass cutting boards on the tops Any help appreciated! Thanks :D
