Texas governor and potential republican presidential runner is organising a bit of a pray for god to fix stuff.
    http://scienceblogs.com/dispatches/2011/07/perry_wants_god_to_do_his_job.php
He also prayed for rain a while back to help the drought in Texas, still droughty there.
It's hard to tell if people like this are serious, as with religion if you can fake sincerity you have more or less made it. Also the idea of republicans being small government but yet expexcting their bbf to help things along is a bit befuddling.

This event is so stupid both the Westboro Baptish church and the Austin Atheist group will be on the same side protesting it.

    Take that in.

Rick Perry was advised by his staff that his planned tax breaks would create the problem he is now facing. So he is ignoring them and turning to God to sort it out, primarily because he's apparently looking to run for President in the future.

If God existed, I hope he'd come down and tell him to sort it out himself.

Some of the sponsors are all kinds of crazy; if he's running for the nomination he has to know association with them will kill chances with independent voters.
The meshing of religion and conservatism in the US seems very strange; on one hand you have the idea that you get what you work for, you have to do it yourself, no government help etc but asking the sky daddy to intervene is ok
In the case of this event it's not as if peope aren't already praying for good outcomes to the many problems being faced, does god need a target of prayers?
It seems like in some circles that if you are successful then it's because god gave it to you, which then leads to some kind of narcissism.

They've fallen a long way from the days when a president could be shot during a speech and still finish speaking before bothering about seeing a doctor. :(
