Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Shopping around for a road bike for my wife. Im looking at 52 cm frames. Is a mans frame in a small size fine or should I only be looking at female specific frames.

    Thanks!

if you're in the market for a complete bike, there's better value to be got buying a mens than womens. my OH got a womens specific road bike equipped with a sora groupset a couple years back for the standard entry level of about E900, good and all as it is, you could get a mens bike for the same cost but with a better groupset eg tiagra or even with a tisgra 105 mix. female buddy of mine bought a male bike and has no issue with it apart from the bars which she changed to a narrower type and saddle which she swapped out also.

I got a bike for herself, went with a 52 mens frame. Only thing I changed was the saddle. Fitted her spot on, and was confirmed by Aidan Hammond. Ladies bikes seem overpriced.

You only pay for the colours thb... There is no difference really and you can get better value for your money for male/unisex bike
I have women frame for commuting and unisex for long spins, zero difference.
Look for rather relaxed geometry than women specific bike

Women's specific only if you're on the smaller side. For a size 52 it doesn't matter.

I got a size 49 men's bike last year and only swapped out saddle and bars. Perfect other than that.

It's marketing waffle. There are no men's bikes, they are just called bikes. If it fits, ride it.

I ride regular non-felame specific bikes too, no bother. Shorter stem as I have a shorter body but that's not necessarily gender specific.

Not sure about the bolded bit though? Why? I can't say I agree with that at all! Position is not gender specific?

my wife bought a woman specific bike, but only cos it was a 48 and there were no man bikes available in that size.

I have a wsd bike. I have very small hands, a short body and narrow shoulders so it works for me. its a giant avail 2. tiagra groupset.

My first road bike was a WSD, but it came with 40cm bars with too long a reach for my hands, so apart from slight geometry changes it wasn't that different to the so called men's version.

Some men have small hands and narrow shoulders too, you just need to find the right handlebars for your size. Adjustable levers help too.
