Excellent value. Smooth, good resistance, takes different wheel sizes and very easy to set up. Great product, before you even consider the price, which makes it exceptional value.

Bought this two weeks ago, a lot quieter than i thought it would be, the accessories mean you can get started without having to buy a single thing else. Definitely recommend, just bear in mind that that is the internet price and they're 180 in store

Good to know and fair point on the accessories. To get the €160 its no problem to order online and collect it. Paying the same way anyway on the credit card.

Not working there. And would have two policies. Support the Independent shops where possible, and if that doesn't work support the chain shops. Internet is last option. All have their good and bad points. But you can't knock this deal from Halfords and they have been known to support some local bike races.

Looks a great deal and will probably go for it. I take your point on the LBS versus chains versus online. However it's the changing landscape of shopping in general I'm afraid with a race to the bottom.

i thought id add to this thread instead of making a new one, Ive been looking at a turbo trainer and have narrowed it down to two different ones,

No.1 the Elite Magnetic Force from halfords
No.2 The Cycleops Mag+ (185 euro down from 219) from euro cycles http://eurocycles.com/ie/product/cycleops/mag--with-adjustable-trainer

Does anyone know if either trainer is better? Build quality/noise ext?

Also when in euro cycles i was told that its recommended that you change the tyre for a special one (to avoid ware) has anyone else done this?

    Thanks

    Good addition to thread.

One the subject of tyre wear I had heard that and plan to use my MTB on it as oppose to my road bike. Avoiding the issue really!

Not really avoiding the issue at all, you're just wearing down your MTB tyre instead of your roadie tyre.

Also, I have heard that MTB tyres make an inordinate amount of noise on a turbo. Haven't tried it myself though.

The ideal situation would to be have a completely separate rear wheel with either a dedicated turbo tyre or an old sacrificial road tyre. I bought one before christmas and the best investment I ever made. Whatever you do, just don't use the turbo tyre on the road (zero grip).

Was sacrificing the MTB tyre instead of my Gatorskins road tyre! Good call on a separate wheel as I have now found a use for my almost new slick Giant tyres that I have to spare following replacing them with the Gatorskins.

    Hi lads,

I bought the "Elite Magnetic Force Elastogel Trainer Pack" in Halfords:

Do you know if there are any training apps that can be used with it?

    Thanks

    TrainerRoad

I've started using it lately. Finding it great to give a bit of focus to a session on the turbo trainer

No problem I was a noob too until recently :D

    I'm using it with:
    Tacx Booster turbo trainer
    Wahoo tickr HRM
    Garmin ant+ USB stick
    Garmin Speed sensor
    Garmin Cadence sensor

The HRM and Cadence sensor are not necessary for TrainerRoad but if you like stats it's an option.

I should add I don't have a Garmin headunit (no edge 510 810 1000 etc.) You don't need one for TrainerRoad. All the data is on your laptop or iPhone.
