We are considering getting a puppy this summer as a companion for us and our old dog who is mad about puppies and other dogs as company, I would love to get a rescue dog but it's not really possible since we have rabbits and chickens that the dog will be in contact with and needs to be in contact with from an early age. Plus we want a small house dog like a yorkie.

My dad has not completely warmed up to the idea because we had a bad experience with a dog we got a couple years ago when we hadn't a clue about dogs and how to train them. I am willing to train and socialise the dog but I'm looking for good websites on how to go about it, I could just google it but I want a good site with accurate training methods, if anyone has any links?

Didn't use internet sites, went to puppy classes, cost €100 for 6 weeks.
The classes are more about training you on how to train the puppy and helped with being able to recognise how the puppy is trying to communicate with you and other dogs.
Really helps iron out the bad things that you don't even realise you're teaching them too.

Found that searching the web had very contradictory advice, but would definitely recommend the classes. Not sure where in Clare you are, but did ours in Galway city if thats not too far a trek, though you might be able to find something in Ennis or Limerick.
