Hell everyone, my sister wants to buy a new laptop seeing as her current one is terrible. I don't know which is the best way to buy new laptops but she has a budget of absolute maximum 1000 euro, she has been looking at the dell website and I am not sure if it is the best way to get a new laptop so I came here to ask for…

Well she has just purchased Oblivion, Skyrim, Portal 2 and The Sims in the steam sale, she wont need to be able to run them on the highest settings but we looked at some Laptops on the Dell website and they seem ok but I am not too sure and this is quite a big purchase

Get something with a 560M, with them games listed an ultra book will be rubbish.

Buy a nice sexy little desktop and be awed by its awesomeness at a grand or buy a pretty average laptop.

You're gonna struggle for anything with a half decent GPU for €1,000

You could try configuring this:

This is probably the closet you'd get ... 650M isnt going to light the world on fire but might be okay for the odd bit of gaming.

You definitely don't need a 560M for the casual gaming the OP is looking for.
I bought a Dell XPS in December with a 555M and it can pretty much max out Skyrim at 30 fps. I just turn down AA & Shadows. But it certainly can play anything you throw at it. Some of the most taxing will have to be turned down a bit.

Dell should definitely be one of the retailers you consider but shouldn't be the only place you check. Saveonlaptops as linked by GCDLawstudent is a very good site for laptops but atm we are getting screwed by the conversion rates. Here is another thread I have bookmarked about gaming laptops and you will find a lot more online retailers of laptops linked to in that thread and most of them are worth a look.

I would say for light, not at highest quality gaming don't go below a 550M and if possible get a 600 series GPU.
