Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just out of curiosity, as you posted the link - What is the 36 hour rush about? The IWC annual meeting is not until 21st to 25th June with the conference sessions from 30th May to 21st June.
Unless, of course, the link is out of date and was designed to be presented to the working group of the International Whaling Commission which issued it's discussion paper on 22nd February. The compromise paper was discussedby a group of IWC countries at a meeting in March, and is intended to be adopted by the IWC at its next full meeting in June this year.

This is an attempt by the IWC working group to find consensus between countries opposed to whaling and states that support it.
While not agreed, it is the result of a serious effort by countries with significant interests in the conservation and management of whales and has been put forward as a set of ideas as to how the IWC could function in the future - according to the document

A key component of the compromise is to bring all whaling under the control of the IWC for ten years. The IWC would then set quotas for sustainable commercial hunting. Hardly ideal but a well intentioned effort perhaps.
Anyway, regradless of the pros or cons, is the petition out of date? Just wondering as I've an interest in the subject.

I don't see why there shouldn't be commercial whaling on a sustainable basis.
If the anti-whaling nations keep pushing, the IWC will break up and there will be no regulation of whaling which is not a good thing.
The IWC was started to regulate whaling not ban it.
