Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Whatever happened to hard labour

    So this f*cktard escapes Portlaoise prison by means of a 'carefully crafted plan', injuring 2 people along the way, then heads off on a mini rampage up to Belfast, to stick up a chemists and have a few pints at a classy pub.

    Would all if this have been averted had the little sociopathic sh1thead been too exhausted form breaking rocks all day like back in the good old days? Same goes for the rest of them in prison (or should it be called holiday camp). Time to bring back a bit of penal law for these hard core recidivists - make it less of an incentive to go around annoying folks.

    Lest any do-gooders suggest that these poor criminals need nurturing, think of what it was like for the employees of that pharmacy in Belfast yesterday with a psycho knacker pointing a gun in your face looking for beer money.

    Yeah, fresh air, exercise and weight lifting. That's sure to demotivate them and destroy their confidence!

    Heavy manual labour is known to increase testosterone levels, which in fact makes prisoners more violent and dangerous.

    Light labour like knitting and pottery would be far more effective.

    No chance. I've seen Demolition Man, you think you're programming them to stitch pretty doilies when instead they come out all kung fu, kicking ass in the future and typing really quickly at ATM machines. And don't get me started on the three seashells.

    At least with some sort of manual labor system there'd be an alternative for those that simply want to bulk up and do strength exercises all day, every day.

    Obviously the recent rise of democracy has led to this infernal fad of locking men up in cages.

    The elites cannot bear the prospect of proper penal punishment when their power persists due to the subsistence of their underlings.

    Not necessarily. Some people would sooner learn practical and physical skills.. things they can use upon release.

    There aren't many people who want to employ poets etc straight out of prison.

    That said, there are plusses too; exercise will improve one's overall general sense of well-being, attention span, motivation, and 500 other things.

    The problem with prisoners is that they're not necessarily criminals because they're depressed or unmotivated. Like the guy mentioned in the OP, many are just straight up sociopaths, and hard labour will do little except make them healthier, stronger, more confident and more motivated. Then you send them out into the world.
