Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    1995 220 CE, Auto, 05/16, €1750 and 4 weeks tax as a sweetener.

Nice AMG monoblocks, need to check what the "rust spots" are. Seems to be an honest ad all the same.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Elegant car. I'm not a wheel person, but I love those monoblocks. Pure understated class.

Car has been for sale for 50 days though. That's not a good sign, is it?

Guys if someone arrives out today or tomorrow with 2k( no less)id take it for my A3, I'm about to lose the car I really want. If it doesn't sell I'll be taking it down and keeping it.

I would say it's a banger either but it's great bangernomics. Good test, but of tax, nice history, lots of goodies!

I'm about to head over to naas from Westmeath if anyone want to view it. Better off getting me on the phone too.

^^ that's the one with the problematic 1.6 isn't it?
That Audi is well worth the 2k IMO - hope you get it shifted. What are you replacing it with?

Polo GTI, I'd probably get a little bit more if I wait it out but nothing else tickles my fancy. It's never given problems and ticks all my boxes but I fancy a change now. We all know how that is!

No tax, so that puts it well over the 'Nomics limit.

Nice enough looking wagon, but I wouldn't have another red car if you paid me.

    That's my baby :D

Very sad to let it go. Tax went last day of August, and the bonnet paint ain't in the best nick, so price is negotiable.

But maaan, occasional trips coast-to-coast become a pleasure rather than a chore. Can't believe I'm thinking of downgrading to an Almera or something...

I tried getting insurance on similar a few months ago.

An automatic Impreza 1.5 litre. And boy was it painful...it didn't matter that it was a 1.5 or even an automatic. They kept saying the word "Japanese" to me and giving me even more extortionate quotes than usual. I can only imagine similar with that pulsar...rendering it effectively a write off.

Oh I was interested in the Impreza because I have a bad leg and needed a runabout for a few weeks. I know the engine and box are god awful :P

Can you please clarify for me? If you buy a car out of date a few months tax, you don't have to pay the back tax, do you?

A purchaser is liable for motor tax from the first day of the month during which they purchase the car

    Estates... from older to newer...

1998 VW Golf Estate, 1.4l petrol, NCT to Apr 2016 (per advert), 118k miles, asking €700
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/vw-golf-estate-variant-mk-3-/10355938?offset=14
Actually looks interesting enough (to me at least!), and advert reads fairly well (i.e. genuine?). How hard is it to ensure a 1998 car these days (17 going 18 years old)?

2004 Skoda Octavia Estate, 1.6l petrol, NCT to June 2016 (per NCT website), mileage not listed, asking €1350
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/skoda-octavia-2004-new-nct-6-2016/10030852?offset=29

    2005 Peugeot 407 Estate, 2.0l petrol, NCT to Feb 2016, 220k km (?), asking €1600
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/peugeot-estate-407-petrol/10350382?offset=18
taxed to the end of the month, or a 2.0l diesel version from 2006, 183k miles and NCT to July 2016, asking €1999 out at Bill Griffin in Naas:

I'd say its more the Jap impreza they heard and got scared :pac: The last decent Jap import I had was a Levin and the insurance was decent.

Some will insure 18 year old cars on a new policy. Fbd wouldn't do it for me but RSA did. Bloody ridiculous some will refuse more than ten year olds, on some fairly general, spurious grounds really.

also... better to buy it at the start of the month than the end (got caught out by that myself, bought car like on 27th of the month, if the paperwork was put through 4 days later it would have been cheaper and suited me fine to take the car a few days later and save 1 month's tax)

Yea, you're right. It can take a week to 10 days to get the car officially in your name and you can't declare it off the road until then.

They're not cars I know myself. Personally I think they look pretty good, and kit can be decent. But I don't know what they're like to drive/run/maintain. (Could turn out like the C5: for whatever reason I want to like the C5, but I've test driven a few and just never warm to it.)

We have a '05 407 1.8L petrol from new. It has 300km on the clock and is still going strong. I always used the correct oil which is essential, and have a trustworthy mechanic. Touch wood, we had no trouble or breakdowns in 10 years other than normal wear and tear items items and general servicing. They are a comfortable drive and return around 34mpg. They're not the quickest off the line but as a family car, who cares. I can't really fault it.

The 1.6 Hdi is a terrible car. The rest of the range are actually pretty nice well specced cars.
