Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I want to paint aluminium windows any advice on which primer and paint would be best ?
I understand standard household paints will peel after time.
    Thanks

Sanding down 1st then look up the likes of hammerite.

I think Hammerite is meant for steel only. I have heard most if not all standard paints will lift off aluminium due to a reaction. I will check it out though maybe with a primer for cars and then Hammerite? Thanks for the advice.

Aluminium naturally forms an oxide layer that is very hard and resists paint, you really need to use a scotchbrite type pad and then wipe it down and use an aluminium etch primer, then prime and topcoat.
Trouble is most aluminium windows are actually anodised in order to prevent corrosion,I would try using a test area in an inconspicuous spot before going the whole way.

    Hey
did you go ahead with the project - any advice. I read about BIN Zinsser primer for all surfaces - would that be sufficient? Did you paint or spray - for a more even coat I wonder about spraying/
    Thanks

I cleaned them down and sanded.
I primed with a zinc etching primer I got from a motor factors .
Under coated and glossed with standard paints.
It looks great will see how long it lasts now :-)

Well cleaning down before painting is a must. When I was serving my time as a painter we were told to use acid etch primer before putting on any paint.

My father had the same request about ten years ago. I was able to get a two pack PU which could be applied directly to the Aluminium with no priming required. It is as good today as the day it was done. This paint is, apparently, specially made for that application. Wonderful material!
