Apparently a Luas had put a bin lorry in to the Dice Bar on Benburb Street.... most serious incident yet?

Hope the Luas was alright! They're probably structurally no match for a bin lorry but they've horrendously powerful motors compared to the lorry's engine! :D

Still find it amazing nobody's died yet.

Statistically there should have been a few deaths by wing mirrors or whatever, like there are for Dublin Bus/Irish Rail every year; its an amazingly safe system - until a numpty jumps lights...

    Any photos?

Good to see it reported that the truck did the crashing, not the Luas.

In the early days it was always reported as Luas crashing into the other vehicle.

Dare I suggest that they increase the number of crossover points and power them to deal with situations like today.

Very hard to be killed by a Luas wing mirror when it's a camera mounted eight feet off the ground ;)

What they need to do is publicly prosecute the **** out of anyone involved in an incident with the LUAS - truck must have run a light, no?

I'm sure if I jumped all 6'5" of me in to it when it was passing at speed, it might hurt a bit...

They need to make an Irish version of this and humiliate the stupid people.

I dont have an alternate link I'm afraid - beware theres a LOT of porn advertising on this site. Site itself is clean but riddled with porn ads, so dont click here if you're at work.

<<snip>> Next post is clean link.

Vid of trams ploughing into cars.

If that's the Metro's greatest hits then here's the safe version on youtube.

I particularly like the ine at 1:34 where the white car ignore the straight only road markings, so they can turn left into a tram. Nice :D

But on a more serious note: How's the pub? It's a good spot the Dice bar

I think there have been a few accidents / incidents on this point of the line. It should be noted that its usally becuase some dimwit has gone through a red light or entered the yellow box on the junction. Its about time that Luas prosecuted these people with a hefty fine to cover the cost of all the damage if they dont already do so.

Was only in the dicer on Saturday. I like the area near the front door door too. Hopefully, the damage isn't too bad.

I emailed Veolia ages ago asking whether they got the vehicle to pay for damages to Luas trams. They said that they dealt with it like any other motor vehicle crash, which I assume means that the at-fault party pays.
Six people were taken to hospital after the Dublin Corporation truck first struck a busy Luas tram, before shattering the window and damaging the side wall of the Dice Bar at Queen St in Dublin 7.
Dublin Corporation? Must be a very old truck. When was DC renamed to Dublin City Council?

See first line of Wikipedia article.

Remember kids. If it is on Wikipedia then it must be true.

Yeah thats it. Searched on youtube but couldnt find the damn thing.... :D Thx..

everyone of those youtube crashes were because of incompetant drivers.....so how come every time a tram hits something, the articles sound like it was the trams fault?

I think drivers need to appreciate that the tram cant swerve so if you hit one, its gonna be a big bang....i make sure i give them a wide berth when ever im near them...

It's dealt with by the respective insurance companies just like any other traffic accident.

If it can't swerve, why give it a wide berth. Wouldn't it be more important to give 'ordinary' vehicular traffic a wide berth? :D

Not good enough. Why not prosecute for dangerous driving?

    Life ain't always empty.

That would be up to the Gardai and the DPP not the tram operators. I'm sure that RPA/Veolia would be more than happy to assist the authorities in any prosecution but it is not their decision to make.

Yes, I know, but there's been a good few crashes involving the Luas by now and they always seem to be caused by the other driver doing something totally stupid and/or illegal. I haven't heard of a single one being prosecuted though. If it was up to me, I'd be making an example of these people...

Yellow boxes are used here as a way to beat the lights, people stop on them and then they have to move when the lights change against them.

I see this far too often, very frequently on O'Connell bridge where the Gardai do an excellent job of nothing about it.

I honestly think that clamping down on stopping in yellow boxes and the like would filter through to the whole driving mentallity here and in the long run probably make us better drivers.

It would appear that people are not getting the message. This afternoon there was another crash involving a car this time and a tram again at the Queen St junction. Traffic lights ignored all the time in the City.
