Polish Restaurant/ Mass in Dublin?

    Hi there

    Does anyone know if there is a Polish Restaurant in Dublin. I thought I read about one in an article in The Sunday Tribune a few weeks ago but can't remember where.

    I understand there is a Polish mass (maybe more than one?) somewhere. If anyone knows where I'd also be grateful.

    Polish Restaurant. I understand it is at 10 Burgh Quay, Dublin 2 ('The Beanery'). Polish food is served at the weekend and there is live Polish music on Saturday.

    Polish Mass, be gora. I was in Poland for a wedding in August. The church was quite small and all the locals flooded in for this extra mass they could go to and took up all the front pews and a lot of the guests had to stand at the back of the church. Pretty funny to see.

    Have you been to the Euroshopper on Strand Street, between jervis & liffey street? It sells lots of Polish stuff and has a little caf at the back that sells goulash and dumplings & other stuff at lunch.

    Went there today (and also to the Italian Deli you recommended, thanks!) and had a great lunch for 6 euros. Some smoky pork sausage in a mushroom sauce with mashed potatoes and salad... yummy!

    Also bought some Kielbasa (sp?) and a piece of smoked bacon and some sauerkraut ... can't think of what I'm going to make out of it yet, but I can feel some chunky soup coming on with potato and caraway seeds in addition to the above ... I'm drooling already!

    There were plenty of other interesting things on display, and my limited language skills were stretched trying to figure out what they were. Most things were labelled in either Polish and/or Russian, with the occasional bit of German or very occasionally English. I'll have to pop back armed with my Russian dictionary sometime :)

    I just love that part of town, I live about a minute away from there and shop there constantly. You should try the rye bread from the euroshopper, it's unbelievable. There's a huge range as well.

    I never even knew it existed ... I mean, it's not exactly somewhere you'd discover by accident. Thanks for the tip!

    I'm just glad I converted another person! Forgot to mention earlier there's also a shop that specialises in eastern european food on caple street. I've forgotten the name, but gourmet is in the title somewhere I think. It's got a large glass front with blue wood surround about half-way up on the left side if you have your back to the Liffey.

    And just to return the favour, my favourite asian food shop at the moment is the rather unoriginally named "Asian Food Co." at 54-55 Mary Street. In addition to the usual Indian/Chinese selection they also have a good selection of Turkish foodstuffs including a Halal butchers. They also have a good selection of eastern vegetables such as those little aubergines, okra and those knobbly green gourd thingies whose name escapes me :) But beware they close for prayers some time around Friday lunchtime for a short while.

    I love that place! It still doesn't stock sumac though, I don't know anywhere in Dublin that does.

    Hmm, I had to look that one up :) From the description, I think I've had it before, just didn't know what it was called! My wife works with a couple of Turks, I'll ask her if they know anywhere.
