Ive been there since(2004 for ireland matches against Nigeria and Jamacia) and in isolation its grand. I'm not saying its rampant but it does exist.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,692 ✭✭✭✭OPENROAD

you haven't worn an irish jersey around i'd say thats pretty much certain assume.

i remember playing football one day with the ireland jersey on and out of nowhere some grown man started abusing me...throwing out all the usual crap and whats worse I heard its even worse in birmingham.

No I haven't worn an Ireland top, but up and down the country you will see Irish people with massive Irish flags every weekend at English grounds, Irish people wearing Celtic tops at English matches and they never get any hassle, I have even seen Irish flags hanging out of peoples appartment windows in London :), as said I'm sorry you expereinced negative things but I have seen the reverse here where people wearing England tops in Dublin have got some terrible abuse and have had to leave pubs because of it, but I would hate to think they would write us off as a people cause of it ;)

My dad in London in the 70's was victim of a lot of abuse for being Irish. I lived as a young kid in London, only a few years back when my family moved so much and still anti-irish sentiments exist.

Yeah, i put up with the same crap when i moved to Dublin, and i'm actually Irish! People are idiots, if you have an English accent, then you must be English!! My surname is Byrne ffs.

So yeah, there are retards on both sides of the water.

    Anyway back to the footie...

Looks like its going to be 4-3-3, with Gerrard in the left side of a narrow midfield.

Is this being shown live on TV? I had a look though the sky guide and couldn't see it on Sky Sport or Setanta.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 32,865 ✭✭✭✭MagicMarker

It's on Setanta Ireland & UTV.

Kick off at 5.15pm.. you were probably looking at 8pm?

yet you support the english national team presumably because of the crap you put up with here. fair enough.

I support the English national team because I lived there since i was a baby until i was 11, i practically grew up there, i saw no reason to change who i supported just because i moved back to Ireland.

    Presume away though.

throwing out all the usual crap and whats worse I heard its even worse in birmingham.

never had any anti-irish sentient directed at me in the west midlands (or anywhere in england for that matter), and im over there every second week for villa home games, and used to live in wolverhampton

Its not as bad as it used to be, sure theyve even given Ireland their own section on the stormfront website.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭estebancambias

they have indeed, is it not american though?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

I dunno, its hilarious watching the Irish and English racists arguing though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭estebancambias

    indeed. great stuff altogether.

You're find right wing nationalism wherever you go, end of. The Austrians juts voted them back into contention, ffs. Any anti-Irish feelings in the UK is pretty much anti everything-not-English. Thankfully, it's rare. Anyway, it's not like Ireland had never been xenophbic itself.

    I'm going for a scrappy 1-0 to england or a 0-0 draw.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

bold prediction there ikky .. 0-0...CAPELLO OUT if thats the case.

can see this going the same way as the Andorra game. 0-0 HT and then England come out and play a bit and win 2/3-0

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,815 ✭✭✭Charlie

I would imagine that there are far more ignorant Irish people with misinformed views on the English, than ignorant English people with misinformed views on us.

Given the fact their population is roughly 15 times ours, thats a pretty impressive feat, and one massive chip on our nations shoulder.

thats very true imo. our education system has a lot to do with it too.

did u know there is archived footage of the kings visit to cork and loads of the locals have union jacks hanging out the windows? rebel county indeed

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭estebancambias

i think its common knowledge that before the rebellion, irish people were indifferent to british rule, often it was emmigrants who held the greatest resentment.

England teams, looks like he has gone with both Gerrard and Lampard

James, Brown, Ferdinand, Upson, A Cole, Barry, Gerrard, Lampard, Walcott, Heskey, Rooney

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

    Right some football news

    Line up announced 4-3-3

    James,
    Brown-Ferdinand-Upson-A Cole

    --Gerrard-Barry-Lampard

    --Walcott-Heskey-Rooney

England to win by 6 goals! i reckon - a Rooney hattrick, a Walcott double plus a jammy Heskey goal.

Yes, i may be a wee bit too optimistic.

Weather is glorious btw - perfect evening for football.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭estebancambias

ye whats up with this class weather. never this good in october. i wish ireland were playing now, would be such a nice evening for a game in croker especially since i'll be on the hill for the cyprus game..will probably be lashing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,552 ✭✭✭Bobalicious93

I cant believe he's started heskey rather than defoe.I don't see the logic involved there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,815 ✭✭✭Charlie

    Seriously???

What has Defoe ever done in an England shirt? Heskey on the other hand has spearheaded some of their best results post millennium. His style of play allows Rooney the free roll he enjoys, and brings the likes of Lampard into the game. Just because he isn't a goal machine, doesn't mean he isn't an incredibly effective player.

Heskey for me would be one of the first names on the england team sheet.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,751 ✭✭✭newballsplease

a forward/strikers job, imo is to score goals. something heskey does not do.
Your right what your saying as in his style of play, but 1st name on the team sheet??? not a hope.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭estebancambias

england are ****e...i'd say ireland are better at passing the ball than them definetly.

just look at us against cyprus i bet we show more intent and more creativity against a far better team.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Meh, same old same old. Upson rubbish, too slow to get the ball wide, sloppy passing.

Heskey best player with Rooney and he needs to stay closer to the big man.

They passed Croatia off the park in their last game. I don't see how you can say we are a better passing team than them on the basis of a lacklustre 45 minute display.

everytime i watch england its the same though. the thing with england for some reason they're obsessed with the notion of high tempo play, they are a good bit better than us individually but I just prefer our passing style ever since the days of Brian Kerr.

Very hard to play against a team defending so deep, Wallcot and Gerrard/Lampard off, Beckham and Crouch on, fling balls in from the right, goals a plenty. 2 centre halves are tiny.

Can't agree with taking Wallcot off, Lampard should though and they should revert back to 4:4:2

Setanta half time coverage terrible, are we getting a different coverage to those in England?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,047 ✭✭✭Culchie

I thinks the last we'll see of the two paddies as pundits ....they pulled the piss there big time out of England, can't see Mr & Mrs Smith liking that watching the TV in the UK.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

The "paddies" are on Setanta Ireland only, there will be no gunboat sent over!

SWP is going to come on for the second half it seems.

SWP on for Barry, while barry was shíte in the first half, i'd still rather lamps come off.

The left back is painfully slow, but there is no space behind him for Walcott to exploit, the best option when full backs are so deep is to cross, which Walcott is terrible at. Beckham can prosper in this particular match, especially with Heskey and the bean pole in the box.

Nothing happening down the right for Kaz, Rooney can drift anywhere he wants.

Personally I go with Lampard and Walcott off. Gerrard and Barry sitting.

Christ, the England fans really fúcking suck.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭estebancambias

actually i was going to say that, both ours and england fans are so so bad, yet scotland has great noise at Hampden.

walcotts having a bit of an aiden mcgeady game, although he doesn't ask for the ball near as much as Aiden.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭estebancambias

    2-0 another set peice.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,692 ✭✭✭✭OPENROAD
