Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Nimble.ie & Bebo

Has anybody noticed this website (nimble.ie) creeping up in comments around bebo? I read an article on it, apparently a project by a lad in DIT, which then took off into a commercial venture, poised to be "the next bebo"!

What I was wondering is has anyone joined it? I see alot of comments on other peoples pages, but they all look so generic as if they're being left by a bot or something. I know bebo did that when they started, asked for your email address and password, then accessed your email and sent a mail to all of your contacts, so I was wondering if this is something similar. Does nimble.ie log into your bebo and leave viral comments on all your friends pages or something?? It's sneaky but I still think it's quite clever, and with the way bebo are going crazy with their a-bit-too-stalkery "changes" section, i wouldn't mind seeing it take of and have some of the cash flow from the social networking craze fall in Irish pockets.

And obviously, a post about Bebo on boards will merit all the "Bebo? Isn't that for 14 old girls" whitty replies, so I look forward to them too!

I'd say they were left by a bot, or there's an option to "tell your friends on bebo about this". I've gotten a few and they're identical except for the name. I don't see it taking. The main slogan I've seen for it is that it's an irish bebo, which seems a bit pointless with bebo's popularity in Ireland.

Looking at some of the profiles on bebo.....I fear for the future of literacy in this country. I don't believe for a second we've got 90% literacy rates.

Call me cynical, but I'd give 7/2 that the OP has something to do with this website.

And what a shít name too...

EDIT: Those odds have been revised to 3/1.

    Reasons:

    - "The next Bebo"? - Who said that?
    - Taking the effort to type the address again in your post, hmmm, don't really see why that's necessary as it's in the thread title, unless of course, you're trying to "spread the word" as much as possible.
    - OP seems to have designed a website already.
    - Just smells of an attempt at sly promotion.

I joined purely because I got a load of emails from friends, all generic which I don't thin they actually sent. It's a poor mans bebo. I hate bebo with avengance but this is worse. They allow 12year olds to sign up! There are forums and loads of children between 13-17 appear to be hooked on it. It's still quite basic but the colours and flashiness will be a winner with the teenagers. Also seems to be geared towards dating with options such as 'meeting' and 'market', wtf:confused: Personally I don't think any self-respecting adult would use this. I deleted the acc i set up after a quick look. But apparently they've gained a few thousand members in the last week alone. Do we really need another social networking site?

Reminds me of that 'Bebo for DCU' thing a few years back, Ducky.ie or something. We don't need another one of these. Bebo, MySpace, Friendster and Facebook are already too much.

That said, i quite like Bebo, but thats where it ends :/

yeah i remember that ducky thing.

nimble wont take off, it's far too late into the market.

Yeah I actually felt my post was gonna come accross that way! My original title was gonna be something like "nimble - a bit dodgy?" or something to that affect because of the way they run that bebo account hack type thing (if that's what it is) but then I decided to soften on them a bit because I remembered bebo did the same thing with the emails.

To be honest, the whole point of the thread was to enqire if someone had an account, and if these posts i see on bebo automated by a nimble bot, so to speak!

Personally I haven't got an account, and I don't think I would, it looks a bit seedy, going for the "guys and girls who love to flirt" angle. Also, I don't think I'd trust a site that would pull a stunt like that with my personal info (if that is an automated thing!)

Oh and the name in the title and body of the post, who would be that desperate to "spread the word"!!

I never heard anything about that before.

The advantage of nimble over bebo (at the moment) is that it's not blocked by the Schools' Filtering System on all computers under the Schools' Broadband scheme.

    Hi All,

Thank you for your feedback above. We are a young Irish start up company and we are still working on making the site better. So I hope we don’t disappoint everyone.

The site has taken off slightly quicker than initially expected and as a result we had to take the sign up button away while upgrading to a faster server. This is now in place.

Re the Bebo thing, Bebo members were able invite their friends through nimble of they wished. We did not at any stage use people’s data incorrectly.

We now have 25K members. And we are always open to suggestions on how to improve the site so please send them on to us. There is a suggestion box within the site in the Forum.

FYI There is a lot of additional functionality on top of the norm of a social networking sites e.g. see who has visited you, ignore function, hot or not, web forum, chat rooms etc etc etc…

Thanks for your support and interest.

    See you there,
    The Nimble Team

Even now if you click on the "find friends" link it asks for your email address and password, and I presume then sends out those generic "hi i'm using this service to share my photos...." email to everyone in your address book. I've never done it but that's where i presume those emails come from

    All,

Seems that the BEBO team are freaking out at the competition.
They are now filtering all reference to the words "NIBMLE.ie".

I'd suggest to all that you use "N1MBLE.ie" or "N I M B L E .ie" to get the message across to other users on BEBO.

I can understand BEBO filtering child porn, rude or intrusive language but this takes the biscuit. I only use BEBO cause my GF wants me on board, I do not use NIMBLE and perhaps never will. I just hate when corps and the big bullies force they way upon the peoples. With this, I'm off BEBO. They truly suck. Just like Yahoo and taking peoples photos from Flickr.com (yes, I was a victim), BEBO now is not worth even farting on IMO.

    Just FYI

    Yes, who cares.

But now BEBO are crossing the line. Free speech and competition are facts of life that should be preserved. I don't care for Nimble myself. Just my freedom.

    And you? Hope so.

If you owned a shop would you be willing to allow your front window space to be taken up with large posters of the offers your competitors are offering?

In any case I see nimble have now been blocked on school computers in the North.

Lol! To be honest i'm scared to google a section of that because i'd be afraid it's my younger sister's profile (or that one of her equally stupid friends.)

I saw the bebo filter on the nimble.ie, fair play to them for picking up on it.

Oh and yes grogg, i too am fearful that bebo are taking away my liberties by not allowing me to advertise direct competitors via their own website, i'm sure they're also busy burning Irish flags and building a Guantanamo Bay II off the coast of Kerry for nimble users

    Hello All,

Just to drop a line and give ye all an update. :D

Today, Ireland's own social networking website nimble.ie has launched their new site design and several new features. As you can see the site has been given a fresh new layout more in tune with Web 2.0 with fun colours and cool buttons.

New features on the site include photo and video sharing, the ability to create your own quizzes etc. One major design change includes a new presentation page where you can see a summary of everything related to a user, such as guestbook comments, friends, quizzes, personal interests, photos, 20 questions and more.

Two powerful and unique features to nimble include the ability to view recent visitors to the page and the inclusion of a presentation box where the user can write and design to their liking thanks to a handy Microsoft Word-style editor.

    Happy Nimbling!
