Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Popularity contests

    A lot of people give out about battle of the bands being popularity contests, but isn't the entire industry a popularity contest? If you can't attract the fans on a local level, how do you think you'll attract the fans on a larger scale?

    On a local scale you will know most of the people personally, and people (friends family etc) will have a high level of empathy for those that they are close to. Even if you don't like the music your friends are creating you will still hope they do well, and attend their gigs and buy their music; though in reality they will rarely listen to, or enjoy, that music.

    On a wider scale this empathy is absent and the band have to rely on their music, and to a certain extent marketing, to attract listeners. For example you could have a gifted but shy songwriter, with few friends, who would be incredibly popular at international level; but would never be successful in a local battle of the bands type situation purely because they don't have that many friends or come from a large close family.

    I know its frustrating but its the safest bet for the organizers to make it a successful night. Id say most would like the luxury of a guaranteed crowd so they could do a better way of judging.

    "fans on a local level" = mates

    "fan on a global level" = fans
