Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There'l be "targetted recruitment" in the Defence Forces. The naval service probably will be taking in a recruit platoon at some stage of the year. Keep an eye military.ie

sorry to ask but what do you mean by "targetted recruitment". I went for the navy the last time back in nov and havent been told iv got in or havent i dont want to be nag to them in trying to find out whats going on but would just try for it in the next recruitment

More than likely they'll recruit to fill vacancies which are most urgently needed - this may be technical specialists or from persons with specific skillets which are required.

If and when recruitment happens you'll hear it in the dail first. I would suggest keeping an eye on the defence ministers parliamentary questions via www.kildarestreet.com - as things stand he will decide to allow the defence forces to recruit personnel and you'll here about it in the Dail before the Defence Forces do.

    Email the recruitment@defenceforces.ie
Explain when you went for it, explain that it was for naval service recruits, and ask for a 'feedback report' on how you did. At this stage if and when they recruit again you'l have to apply and go through it all again. The feedback report will be able to tell you where you went down in the interview last time. Work on it, and try for it again. It might take a while for the feedback report to come, but it will. Make sure they reply and acknowledge your request.

Well if they're waiting for garda vetting I presume that your'e still in the competition. So if they are told to take more recruits, you would be on the panel for people to be called (I presume). So just wait it out. If they are told to take another platoon and not to run another competition, they should get in contact with you. If you hear nothing from them, and it is advertised on military.ie that they are accepting applications, then go for it again because they won't be using a panel.

So to sum it up, wait it out. But if they advertise again for recruitment, then you'l need to apply again. Hope thats a help because it can fierce hard to get info on this stuff during these time. :)

They probably won't tell you till a week before you have to start. Members of the current recruit class were sent emails on Monday the 12th of December and were told they were starting on the following Monday, without any notice before that.

The only thing you can do is wait and see what happens.

If you have been removed from the candidate list then you will be told. If you haven't been told anything then that means you are still being considered.

Chances are you'll be in Class Columbus as long as you pass Garda Vetting I'd say.
Are they going to run a new competition for it?

I'm not sure, I'd say they'll be using the 2011 panel of candidates because a competition hasn't been advertised.

They are cutting nobody, neither NCO, Private or officer.
They are recruiting all the time.
You brother can't help you pass out. Only you can do that.

    They're not cutting numbers..

To quote Alan Shatter, there will be ".. targeted recruitment in 2012" in order to keep the PDF at 9500. People are not getting the boot. People are leaving.

    Right if u say so,

Their after 1/2 the numbers of NCOs the course for the NCOs is no longer available till notice..
But hey what do I know just my cousins are in the navy/ army my brother is a sergeant the other one is a medic officer

That he was given out big time about the cut backs in the army

i do hope that you know Army pay is Sh*t... & army life can be very Boring.... Roll call every morning and sometime in the Afternoon by your Officer or an MP.. if you dont show for afernoon roll call your in deep Sh*t unless you stat to your officer your going for a Run, and in most cases you run out the back door and home in Collins Barracks.

if i can remember during your 12 week Training you only getting 190 euros, on after your 12 weeks you may not be taken on..

once a year you have a full medical check up which inc. the hearing Test and if you get a H2 in your Hearing you contract is not renewed. since the new Contracts only have you on a year to year..

The New Contracts also means you have to Serve over seas when your called up, the old Contracts the person can pick if he wants to go or not..

once your in after your 12 weeks your pay goes up to 400 a week. not much but since the cuts and the USC your take home pay would be about 360 or 370...

in the British army pay is lower but your meals are free in base. you could apply for a Army house which you live in untill you leave the army, they used to have something like it over here years ago when my dad was in the army but they done away with it in the 70s

I'm the Chief of staff, and by brothers aunts cousin's wifes cleaner is the Minister for defence.

I have a feeling that your hearing is selective when it comes to your cousins'/brother's conversations.

    Say what you like.
You seem to have missed in the news that the DF is being reorganised into a 2 brigade structure. The current level of 9500 will not be cut, but with 2 army brigades instead of 3, there won't be as many jobs for chiefs, but still indians required.
All areas of the Public sector have experienced pay cuts in recent years. Not just the army.
DF spending has been reduced by 2.5%, but that makes sense when you consider the hundreds who left in the last year won't need to be paid wages any more, and we won't need to buy the same bits of kit we bought last year.
It is a recession after all.

    Take my word for it.
Or listen to your brother and cousins gossipping. Your choice.

thanks to all of you for helping with my question i think ill just wait it out now that i know more about how the recruitment might be going

Apparently there is a shortage of accommodation because of different courses being run at the same time. So instead of bringing in the next class in April, before the current class passes out, they are going to wait till the current class passes out in May, and start the next class when the accommodation is freed up.

Long story short, Class Columbus is being pushed back to June.
