Ya, lets leave out 52% of the people, my point stands that they didnt have to use the whitest man in Australia for the ad, plenty of ethnicities play cricket and the opposition supporters being all black. They went for skin colour contrast to highlight the 'divide' between the Aussie and the West Indians and keeps them happy by giving them fried chicken....

Your argument is that they shouldn't have used a white Australian guy for the ad because it's offensive? Think about it, is that not absolutely ridiculous?

While I would agree that the ad isn't racist, I do wince everytime I see someone moaning about 'PC gone mad'. What's way more annoying than this apparently over political correctness (which by the way, I see virtually NONE of in Ireland) is people moaning about it all the time.

This case is sort of an exception, because it's a stupid thing to say it's racist (I think anyway, looking at the ad) but in general I'm getting really fed up of people saying 'oh we can't say anything nowadays!' when really what they mean is 'oh we can't be racist nowadays'.

That would probably be a rant for another thread though...

Racism's gone a bit bizarre now. Say you wanted to point someone out in a group, and you said 'he's the black guy', same way as you'd say 'he's the guy with the moustache', would someone deem that racist? And if they would, I think the person deeming it racist is more racist than the person who said it, as they're implying it's shameful to be black.

Although, I don't think anyone does see that as racist so... Maybe a pointless point.

Americans appear to have very different standards of racism from one race to the next. They feel they have to bend over backwards not to offend select groups, but not others.

I think no-one's immune from a joke. So a joke about fried chicken is fair game.

This PC bullshít is madness. Why would KFC purposely set out to offend a group of it's biggest customers.

I was in the US a few years ago with some mates and we went to a party. A mate was was talking to a bunch of black lads and he happened to be drinking a bottle of hennessy. When he took it out to mix it he just asked if they wanted any. A row broke out because it's a stereotype that black people drink hennessy thanks to rap videos. Funny thing is, if i had of done it they would've just called me a spic or beaner or something and that would've been the end of it. It's only racist when you are white.

Not much id say.

Only 40,000 people viewed the ad after the ad was taken down. I'd say a handful of people complained then the media made a big deal out of it, publishing the story and quoting one or two quotes from randomers on the web, KFC said its not worth the hassle of defending the ad so they decide to take it down.

The ad is clearly not racist but its hardly worth KFC's time defending the ad and getting involved in a racism debate.

Like i said before more media BS than PC brigade/americans gone mad.

In live in one of the West Iindies islands. They f**king love KFC here. There are 4 KFC restaurants here and neither a McDonalds nor a Burger King. To depict a West Indian loving KFC would generally be completely true.

This is the point of the ad too - it depicts a West Indian, not an 'African American'.

I call racism on the person who saw the ad and picked up on the colour of a persons skin ahead of the obvious nationality.

It's a bad advertisement, putting aside the PC talk, the marketing behind the ad is retarded. There's one white bloke who seems stressed out over all the noise that the crowd are making, who are pretty much all black. He gives them fried chicken to "quieten" them down. It was bound to kick up a stink somewhere. People in marketing should never leave themselves open to this kind of controversy, and in this case they left themselves wide open for an attack from the "PC" brigade.

I think there's been only one post so far bringing up Nationality. If you were an Ireland fan alone at an away game for a match against say France, and you got a seat among French fans then it would be an awkward moment at first perhaps!
