The colonies created a federal government after the first war.

Some of the existing Military spacecraft operated by the various colonies were commandeered by cylons through physical incursion and electronic warfare. Some civilian ships were also requisitioned. They also had a number of cylon controlled vessels pre uprosing.

The Cylons quickly amassed a presence in space, utilising superior electronic warfare to counter colonial weaponry and jam communications. This led to a number of critical defeats to colony coalition forces early on until they began to use previously redundant technology. It wasn't long before the coalition forces began to adapt to operations with limited communications, keeping tighter fleet formations etc. The cylons began to suffer heavy losses and lose orbital ground over the colonies. Throughout the course of this they cylons were using highly effective hit and run assaults on colonial supply lines and tactical positions. Hence the term cylon raider, as the AI utilised FTL to great effect. So the battlestars were designed from the outset to (A) deal with the electronic vulnerabilities, (B) the need for a multirole type vessel, and (C) the need to respond quicky to cylon raids, ie viper launch tubes.

The first basestars we're developed in secret. The cylon shipyards were hidden.

I read this as leaked info on a blog ages ago when the show started airing. It's funny because at the time it referred to a particular program acting as a catalyst for the cylon uprising. Get this, it was called ZOE. It was vaguely referred to as a program developed in connection with the military.

    Disapointing to read this today...

    http://io9.com/5834264/battlestar-galactica-blood-and-chrome-may-get-demoted-back-to-being-a-webseries

I think it could be a couple of years until we see new BSG on the telly, hopefully not :(

Edit: Looks like this is just an article based on Richard Dower's link above.

    New updates on B&C: http://www.airlockalpha.com/node/8983/syfy-preps-blood-chrome-for-release.html

    http://www.spoilertv.com/2012/03/beauty-and-beast-casting-news-blood.html

Why do I report on that pilot (which truthfully doesn't sound good to me) ? Two reasons : first, there's Alan Dale, that's cool. Second, it's because Karen LeBlanc has signed to join this pilot despite her commitment to SyFy's Blood and Chrome, the Battlestar Galactica spin-off in which she was supposed to co-star (as a secondary character, but still).

The 90-minute TV movie introducing Blood and Chrome has been filmed a long time ago and Bear McCreary (the amazing composer of BSG) has recently put a score on it. But a co-star leaving the ship (literally), the pilot limping its way through the years, SyFy announcing new original programming recently (and not a word on BSG B&C) and the fact that a series would be very expensive might refrain SyFy's will to commit to a first season order. However, the TV movie/pilot might air this summer.

Not too sure about the excessive use of green-screen but, I suppose, anything to keep costs down,.........

Yeah, know what you mean. The on-ship bits look a bit...

Ah well, just happy they've actually done the post-production.

Adama still looks miscast to me.

Am in work so could only watch that in a small window with no sound but that looks amazing. That single ad looks better than the whole series of Caprica.

Looks like it'll be sticking to a web series..........

    http://www.deadline.com/2012/03/battlestar-galactica-blood-and-chrome-cancelled-syfy/
It’s a case of bad news/good news for Battlestar Galactica fans who have been flocking to the Web to watch an unauthorized trailer for the long-in-the-works offshoot Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome over the past 36 hours. After lengthy deliberations, Syfy has decided not to go forward with the project, about the young years of William Adama, as a regular TV series. Blood & Chrome, initially envisioned as a Web series, was greenlighted as a two-hour TV pilot in October 2010. Because of intensive post-production, including special effects, the pilot was not delivered to Syfy until last November. As of January, Syfy president original programming Mark Stern was quoted as saying that he the network brass were “trying to figure out the economics right now” and that he hoped those would be figured out. Now, the network has passed on the project as a regular series but is looking to do it as a digital one, while airing the already produced pilot on the network as a movie. “Though the vision for “Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome” has evolved over the course of the past year, our enthusiasm for this ambitious project has not waned,” Stern said in a statement today. “We are actively pursuing it as was originally intended: a groundbreaking digital series that will launch to audiences beyond the scope of a television screen. The 90-minute pilot movie will air on Syfy in its entirety at a future date.”

Despite the lengthy production and decision-making, the buzz about Blood & Chrome never died among Battlestar fans. It went into overdrive over the past couple of days following a WonderCom panel over the weekend with Kevin Grazier, the scientific adviser for Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica series, where he screened what was described as a trailer for Blood & Chrome. That trailer, to Trent Reznor and Karen O’s cover of “Immigrant Song” for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, found its way to the Web on Monday night and has gone viral — garnering some 100,000 views in 24 hours. The problem was that this was not an official trailer but a demo reel not intended for public consumption and thus not put through the process of clearing music and other rights. It is still unclear how the video made its way to WonderCon, but NBCUniversal today moved swiftly to take down the multiple copies that had popped up on YouTube. Universal Cable Prods, which produces Blood & Chrome, may still shop the project to other networks. Michael Taylor wrote the teleplay from a story by Battlestar Galactica executive producer David Eick, Taylor and Bradley Thompson & David Weddle.

To be honest, that video from yesterday kinda looked more like a web series (albeit a hugely expensive web series) than an actual TV series. Pity.

    Sad in the extreme.

Webisodes of 2/3 mins each? Meh to be honest.

    Would actors really be bothered?

if thats the case i have no interest in seeing it whatsoever. lame.

While I was always excited about B&C, I was nervous that the shift towards action might make it much more one dimensional when compared with BSG and Caprica.

I'm excited to watch the pilot, but the idea of a web series is even more of a turn off.

    What a pity.

CONFIRMED, B&C is dead....but we'll probably see the pilot in the Summer: http://tvline.com/2012/03/21/battlestar-galactica-blood-chrome-syfy-passes/

YT trailer link dead....this one works: http://www.buzzfeed.com/catesish/leaked-battlestar-galactica-blood-and-chrome-tr

Is there a source for this? I would have thought that they'd do full length, or at least 20/30 minute episodes.

If they do that it could work really well. If they make it easy to watch, and in good quality, there'd be zero need for torrenting or using other streaming sites. With the popularity of BSG they could get some impressive numbers and possibly attract decent ad revenue. It's way past time someone launched a proper TV series on the web, and this could be the very show to do it, and do it right.

Wow, I had completely forgotten about this.

What is Machinima Prime, is if a premium / pay for service or is it free?

Trailer seems ok, but the sheer amount of CGI puts me off and doesn't really get my hopes up.

Machinima Prime is a Youtube channel similar to Vevo. It's free afaik, just subscribe to the Blood and Chrome promo video and the webisodes will appear on your page when they are published.

As the series is only being broadcast on the web it was always going to be heavily CGI.

    Enjoyed that!

They seem to have gone for the JJ Abrams school of lens flare though. Censoring some of the language is annoying too. Bull and ass.

    Still, good stuff.

I don't see the point in ten-minute episodes, you barely sit down to watch them and they're already over. Will wait for the whole thing stitched together in Jan or whenever.

I watched both last night, while we dont know alot about the plot yet i think visually it looks superb. Almost all GCI, if not entirely green screen. The shot of Adama looking out the window and panning to the Galactica was astonishing.

The detail, visually eye popping. While not exactly lens flare they do use extensive bright white lights for the laubch bay and other scenes, imo i think this is deliberate to reduce the green screen composite look, or because the CGI shotsmight not be great quality and thus this distraction distorts any visual imperfections.

The white lights are overpowering and headache inducing imo, i assume the unrated Blu-ray will have some boobie shots in that shower scene + unbleeped cussing.....that French bird is something else though!

I must Google her :-) ....its early days but i like what i see thus far.

    4.5/5

Wouldn't be surprised. Couple of those shots looked a little tightly cropped, just above the boob. Was wondering if there's not an uncensored wider angle waiting for the Februrary release.

The most annoying thing about that is that you've got to think about what else might be getting cut along with boobs and the naughty words. Didn't seem to make much of a difference though.

They lumped episode 3+4 into one video this week....nearly 18 mins :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,497 ✭✭✭✭noodler

They are releasing two a week for the next three weeks.

Yup...much better that way :) - ep. 3/4 was great but next weeks Nov. 23rd looks to have an EPIC battle! :D

So they had a fleet hiding and a mission on an ice planet, the CGI was fantastic...really high quality, cant wait to see them nuke it out next week!

    4/5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,810 ✭✭✭Calibos

Secret Mission upon which ultimate victory depends...on an ice planet. Is this the lead up to the Razor flashback webisodes we saw during BSG back in '07...Husker rescuing human guinea pigs from the Cylon Skinjob development program. That was on an ice planet wasn't it???

The amount of reoccurances from the main series is crazy!

Narcho looked a carbon copy though - they could have given him a different role/look!

Really enjoying this I have to say. on 720p on the laptop screen most of the scenes look amazing.

Yeah, kind of a runaway success with the viewing figures they are getting on YouTube.
DVD with extra bits is out after Christmas as far as I know.
Maybe the Scy-Fi channel are going to change their minds about a series ?

Well the response on YouTube has been amazing, and very positive.

Depends if they have the cash for a mini-series.

Just watched these and very impressed so far! This HAS to be greenlit for a full series!

How many eps are there and what's the release schedule?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,288 ✭✭✭TheUsual

Here's the episode info from wikipedia
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_and_Chrome

Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome was scheduled for release on November 9, 2012, as an online series consisting of ten 12-minute acts.
On 9 November 2012 the Machinima network released the first two episodes of Blood and Chrome on its Youtube channel. Since then it has released two additional episodes each Friday.
Universal Cable Productions stated that Blood & Chrome would be broadcast as a movie on SyFy following the online release.

Well the thing about YouTube of course is those are presumably global figures, not the limited outdated Nielsen numbers that most shows live and die on.

I'd be fine with it staying Web based on a full / mini series basis.. Let's be honest, it's where we all get them anyway these days ;-) but maybe it might wake the networks up to the potential audiences out there that if they played it right, with targeted but not too intrusive advertising, could make them more money than ever

Plus it would be nicely ironic that a sci-fi show was the one to bring them into the 21st century ;-)

Pretty sure the voice of that hybrid was the voice of Tricia Helfer ?

    Anyone confirm ?

It definitely sounded like her, and a quick google showsthis where she hints at having a cameo.

Really enjoyed this. I think it was held back a lot by the 20 minutes a week format, it'll work much better watching it all in one go as a DVD release. I really hope they go to a full series.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,289 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

    Yep, it was Tricia.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,509 ✭✭✭✭kowloon

Someone told me that SyFy aren't picking it up. The drop in viewership between the first and subsequent episodes was substantial. I never really had much hope for it anyway, Caprica did the damage. Then there was uncertainty over whether Blood and Chrome would be aired followed by the decision to cut it up into segments. It didn't bode well.
Hope my friend is wrong, I'll wait for an official announcement.

Edit, was just corrected, they decided not to make it a series months ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,119 ✭✭✭Volvagia

I really enjoyed the whole thing. I thought then last scene in the finale was done very well, it was a real BSG moment.

Hopefully this will go somewhere I'd like to see more.
