Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Copy cat :(

I suggest you buy it and give it to me :D

It's €1024 or so including Vat and delivery. Does Ishibashi include hard cases?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Dunno. I'm not too bothered about cases. I want a kick ass guitar with a trem. I'm thinking back 10 years ago, a Japanese fellow I knew called Joe Goose had a Jem which was really quite ****ing sexual to play, so I'm thinking Ibanez RG.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

TBH, I wanted to know about a case in case I order it...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Hmmm... might really have to source one of the ZR Trems

Hang on, did I not just give you that link ???

    Ehhhh... when?

You didn't give me this link either ;)

    http://guitar.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.jemsite.com/news/edge2003/

The ZR looks like a cross between a Floyd and a Kahler Flyer trem (which I loved).

Balls, I thought I pm'ed you that address. I had it in the clipboard and all

*shakes fist at cans of beer....and opens another :p *

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

You want to move to a higher caliber of beer than Dutch Gold, my friend. Dutch Gold only brings pain.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I'm poor. I just spent €600 on gear that I have to find money for. 6 cans for €7. **** it, it gets me drunk. Although Aldi are doing Stella Artois, 10 for €10 :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 800 ✭✭✭dabhoys

What colour you going for Doc. The ibanez are a nice ****ing guitar :p

    I'm seriously contemplating one too...

i thought stella artois was meant to be "reassuringly expensive" not "cheap as wino p!ss"

Looks like a decent guitar Doc, i've never been keen on those ibanez 'horns' myself, but i'm sure she plays beautifully.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Meh, it's just nice enough beer that they're selling for a decent price :D

    Better than Dutch Gold.

I like the Ibanez horns tbh.

So... The Doc is becoming a guitarist!?

    Whatever next, active pickups?

Naw, good stuff Doc, and it's quite a swish guitar if I might say so myself.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Na, me turning into a bassist or using passive second hand pickups

Why do you need another one???

Absolutely nothing wrong with any of those things, my friend.

Cos you can never have enough guitars. Ever.

    And that's the absolute truth!

You can have a guitar for every tuning you can imagine, plus a guitar with different trems, stop bars, neck construction, pickups.

    Ah, you get the picture.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

'tis very true. I've got my main guitar, the Virgin which has a Floyd Rose, but it's an absolute **** for alternate tunings, so I've got my Mockingbird with it's fixed bridge handy anytime I want to tune down to a D and lash out some DEATH!!

The need for an array of different guitars is always there. :D

It's supposed to be cheap, that's the joke behind the ads.

Was playing a friend's Ibanez the other day, not sure but I think it was a similar model, I say go for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

I'm an RG owner myself. The only regret I have is that mine isn't a higher range model. They're lovely guitars. comfortable and fast as hell. It'll do anything for you, so long as it rocks! :D

    I don't have a guitar with a good trem.

Plus, I like guitars, so I figure I ought to buy another one. Just keep it under your hat for a while though, I'll have to sell the idea to the missus first ;)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Pretend you're getting it for someone else... who forgot to pay you or pick it up :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

By the sound of things you may have to sell more than an idea! :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Meh, it's all just thoughts at the moment. They don't seem to have RG's with the ZR trem. I like Ibanez, there's a lot of clever stuff going on with their guitars when you dig below the surface, they continually refine and improve their designs, especially hardware-wise, so I'm looking at them for the moment, rather than ESP or Jackson etc. It's been a while since I really looked into getting a guitar and Karl H's musings got me thinking

    Hmmmmmmm...

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

So you're going for an 8 string too :D

    Nah, though occasionally I consider 7 :D

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    Mmm, seven.

Ever think about making your own? Or getting a custom shop job?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,375 ✭✭✭Antisocialiser

What amp do you use doctor j? RG2000 looks nice btw

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

No, and no. I'm too lazy to make a meal of something the good folks of Japan are pefecting. I want a guitar that will only kick ass, no funny business, no shenanigans, it kicks ass cos that's all it knows. The bass I got has convinced me that the good people at Ibanez are really doing a bang up job at the moment, I believe the Prestige line of guitars are as good as anything, custom built or not. I'm happy to play one of their guitars. Plus, I'm on a budget and my free time is scarce, so this is the way forward, of that I am sure. As for custom paint, I couldn't care less. Once it's not flaming, I don't care what it looks like. I want it to play beautifully and sound beautiful, that's what matters. If it looks nice that's a bonus, but I don't care enough about that to invest in it. I'm suck a clumsy bastard it'll be chipped and dented in no time, so I've learned not to get attached to aesthetics :)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Gah, I'd hate seeing damage on that guitar, considering the price of it. I'd be terrified gigging it in case some **** was light fingered and made off with it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

I've an Ampeg VH-140C that crushes. I bought it from my mate Big Al. He was looking for an amp many years ago and, when we found this, he wouldn't let me leave the shop while he went to source funds, I had to stay and make sure no-one else bought it. It has "the tone". One New Years eve we stayed in and played Sabbath riffs through it all evening... and it was the best New Years eve ever :D

He sold it to me so it wouldn't fall into the wrong hands. it's a very special amplifier.

That money's going to your head man. Meanwhile, I forgot to budget for LIVING next month. I reckon I have to find about €300 to keep a roof over my head! At least I have plenty of manuals to keep me amused during the cold, homeless months to come!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

I've never put it past 3. It's 140 watts, stereo chorus (not that I use the chorus, mind) and louder than the devil farting in a particularily reverberant cave. It doesn't really need 11 :D

You wanna hear Into The Void coming out of it

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

140 watts eh? All tube? Mmm, could be nice.

Right, how much do I owe you angry?

That money went straight to pay off my college debt. I've got to work for this guitar.

Solid state. But oh what a tone

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

:o You, saying solid state is good??? I thought you were a tube only guy?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Not at all. Generally tube is better (especially compared to pedals) but I'm a bass player first, I grew up with solid state and any snobbery I had is long gone. If it sounds good, then it is good, it doesn't matter what it's made of. And let me tell you, this amp sounds damn good.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    Good stuff.

Tell me, have you ever tried the Fender FM212r?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Nope. I'm guessing it's an amp?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Yup. I'll let you know what it's like in a couple of weeks so. I was impressed with it when I played it in the shop so went online, bought and saved myself €100. ****ing Rip Off shops.

I'd love to check out your amp, doc. And your when it arrives, feylya.
