Questions must now be raised on how this highly secretive meeting between Michael Noonan and he Elite has benefited the Irish taxpayer. At the time of attending the meeting we were led to believe that he was "promoting Irish Interests". Where are the minutes? videos of his statements? contributions ? press reports at the table and contributions of what went on?

The cost of Minister for Finance Michael Noonan’s attendance at the annual conference of the secretive Bilderberg group in the US this month was more than €4,300, he has told TDs.

He was invited to attend the meeting “given my position as Minister for Finance” and used the opportunity to tell fellow attendees of the opportunities that exist in Ireland for investors and multinational companies.

Mr Noonan, along with former attorneys general Paul Gallagher and Peter Sutherland, was one of 145 invited leaders and opinion formers who took part in the three-day conference of the western world’s movers and shakers in Chantilly, Virginia.

His attendance was queried by a number of TDs from Labour, Sinn Féin and the technical group, all of whom sought information in parliamentary questions on his discussions at the meeting and the cost.

Where better to peddle the line that 'Ireland is open for business'? If a single job is created as a consequence, the taxpayer will make their money back several times over.

As you well know the whole point of the informal meeting is that there are no minutes kept so people can speak freely.

Probably best to head straight to conspiracy theories!

Has his references to some sort of "new world order" increased or decreased since spending this €4,300 of tax payers money?

How to sell off Irelands resources in the most easiest way and how to privatize the entire country would surely bring plenty of jobs.

His attendance was queried by Sinn Fein ???

Snodaigh could have pocketed an extra 33 printer cartridges for 4300 euro.

This is the reason why the taxpayer should have transparency on these meetings if they are funding them.

He 'was one of 145 invited leaders and opinion formers who took part in the three-day conference of the western world’s movers and shakers in Chantilly, Virginia' to talk business obviously.

You are not privy to the minutiae of any government meetings or negotiations so you'll have to live with the details that it's a business summit.

Worth it to get a chance to talk to this man alone. Canada have robust banking regulation, which has seen them successfully ride the boom & bust cycle, with their economy intact, so there are a lot of lessons to be learned here about the banking policies used, both how to fix them and how to set them for the future.

It's worth pointing out that Canadian banks are buying up a lot of smaller US banks (much to the annoyance of Washington, but there's nothing they can do).

Indeed. The business case for flying the flag in front of these guys doesn't even merit discussion. Of course, it could be that Noonan was selling our oxygen or our firstborn into slavery.

Or perhaps he was trying to win capital investment? Occam's Razor, anyone?

It's not allot of money in terms of our government's general expenditure. You'd have trouble getting a good secondhand car for the price. Not every single meeting has to be disclosed but I have no doubt that it is in fact beneficial to us. Your credibility is an issue given the fact that you attribute basically every event to a conspiracy.

I can't believe there is a thread for this .

4300 euros to attend a conference of such calibre looks like great value .

    We owe 170,000,000,000

Proper for Ireland to be represented at such a conference.

We are a small country depending on external trade and external investment. We have to develope and use all contacts possible.

As the Irish sean-fhocail says "Muna bhfuil ach pochaide gabhair agat, beidh i lár an aonaigh leis"

I let this one roll, really because it was an actual news report and did raise some questions from T.D's, but we aren't really seeing much in the way of a quality thread here.

I'll leave it open for a little bit longer, and revisit it later.

    Cheers

I'd go myself for that price if they would let me ;-)

With that many people in attendance there is no chance anything of substance got discussed, unless it took the form of speaker and audience, in which case it would have been just the usual waffle at conferences.

More likely the elite 10 or so of that group, whoever they are, were in round table talks and the rest of the gang were at the fringes getting their faces
    out there.

In my mind I picture it like speed dating where they all spent 2 mins talking then move onto the next person :D

So we have Patrick Nulty who lied in his campaign to be TD and is now independent and claims over 3000 Euro a month in expenses, We have SF who claim thousands of Euros in expenses and Ink cartridges and we have the Technical Group who defend tax evading TDs moaning about a Minister of Finance who spent just over 4000 Euro on a business trip with world leaders in Government, banking and finance.

As someone pointed out earlier, just one job created from that would be a net benefit.

    Good opposition work there

Maybe we can work 9/11 in to this meeting somehow, throw in a fake moon landing conspiracy too.
