Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Have you priced a replacement casing in VW? May not be too bad. First hit on ebay brought this up, seems reasonable, but I reckon a dealer (if they sell only the casing...) may beat that price.

    Shouldn't need to.

You transfer the guts of the old one, so the remote board AND the transponder chip.

    Edit to add:

I've just looked further and that loop is part of the emergency/valet key which is slotted into the remote housing. You can get those on their own, but unless there is some easy way of pushing the pin out of the loop, then the blank blade will want cutting (unless you buy one ready-cut)

If its just so you can keep it on a keyring, and not too bothered what it looks like, you could stick some kind of ring (keyring, curtain ring,....) to the case with hotmelt glue or epoxy

This is where the emergency/vanity key goes, try the Lock Doctor they do a lot of work with car keys. Maybe this key can be bought and cut separately to replacing the whole electronic key fob. Just like getting an older car key cut. Might not be to expensive that way

The emergency key slots in to the fob and locks in place giving you the hoop you need as in maxplaxton's picture

Have a good look for that insert, if it is found anyone can use it to gain access to your car. I lost mine and found it in the driveway.

The bit that is broken on your key doesn't need coding. It's a piece of plastic that should turn in the door lock, if the battery dies in your key and and you have no other way to get in the car.

If you aren't ever going to use it for anything other than hanging on your keyring, any plastic bit from any Passat key would do. If you ever will need that bit to get in to the car, then it's probably best to contact a VW dealer to get one.

take the mechanical key out of it and see if the car starts with her rest of it

It definitely will, tried that on more than one occasion.

It's very straightforward so. Just buy a blank blade
