Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Re-installing the AC

    Good morning everyone!

I bought an S40 diesel back in October and at the time hadnt noticed that the previous owner for whatever reason has removed the AC compressor and the two pipes that lead it to the rest of the AC units.
I'm buying the compressor plus the pipes in a few days so there are no probs, my question however is that I imagine the AC hasnt been used in a long time and if there are any other parts which should be renewed? I've seen that the condensor is in place and looks ok (rust-free) and the pipes leading to it seem fine also.
The condensor hasnt had any gas for a min of 10 months so would this have caused any damage?

If the pipes weren't blanked off then it might be a bit of a job. Dirt, grime, and moisture will have gone in there and these will surely destroy the new compressor if it is not cleaned out first.

I'm not sure how you would clean the system though, I imagine it is specialist equipment that an air-con shop will only have.

Ah yes sorry, I wont be doing the work myself but I have ordered the parts.
The pipes have been "taped up". I wouldnt have a clue how they would go about cleaning out the pipes but I think for good measure I will ask them to do it. With all this warm weather I seriously need the AC :(

    Tell me about it!

My compressor died in my avensis last year and i was too cheap to fix it....i'm regretting it now!

At least the pipes were taped up, this would hopefully have stopped most of the crap getting in there.

A flush is a good idea. The last compressor may have failed badly, and thrown all sorts of filings and whatnot into the system!

I think a flush will be done anyway for good measure. Do you know how they can "flush" the AC system?
Local scrappy should have a compressor cheap enough for you

They wanted 300 euro for it. Add 70 for gassing, and I thought it wasnt worth it for the 4 nice days we get a year! I am missing it now though, and considering fixing it!

I love the fact that the moment I'm sent abroad the heat comes to Ireland. I have seen though that there are predictions the warm is more or less staying this summer so I'd say you should start looking for the pump
