Treacle and over priced shortbread biscuits made for the tourist market.

Can you still buy hand rolling tobacco in tins? They were damn handy.

Not on general sale no. Tobacconists and shops that specialise in fine whiskies etc would still carry tinned tobacco.

    Splash it all over.

    Or was that Hi Karate
    Or Old Spice?

IIRC that was Brut, with an advert featuring Henry Cooper

You can I think get Amber Leaf tobacco in tins, a bit smaller than the old 2oz GV tins. Still have a few of those, not very shiny now!

I think so too! We don't have enough tins in Canada.

I have something very similar to this Marlboro cigarette tin at home. It only appeared in my house about 3 years ago but I don't know how. I've never smoked, and none of my visitors in that time period smoke either.

It's empty, so maybe I picked it during some drunken night out and just popped the empty tin in my pocket.

    What does that do?

Does exactly what it says on the tin.

Aah yes, the great smell of Brut.

I think my tins were Old Holborn. They made great survival kits as well. Plenty of room to keep matches, a snare, fishing line and hook, some string. All you needed in case of the zombie apocalypse.

Is it OK with you if we teach fish to be zombies?

Only if they fit on my plate afterwards and come with a lovely tartar sauce. :)

you don't really make it sound like you have any less tins than us, not the tins you're talking about. The asian supermarkets always have really cute tins of tea. I'm struggling to think of other things............coffee, spices but they're quite small. what about....http://www.thenibble.com/reviews/main/condiments/mustard/images/coleman-ig-230.jpg cute!

Tins are for cissies. Jute sacks are where it's at. I keep all my stuff in Jute sacks.

I insist on Srilankan Jute. It's smoother.

When I was about 8 or 9, for no particular reason, I became a fan of the Scottish football team, Dundee United. Dundee had the nickname 'Jute City' due to the big jute industry there during the Industrial Revolution. My first job as a student was making jute carpets. Horrible things!

    That's all.

Golden syrup and loose leaf tea come in tins habitually. Randomly had cornflakes, weetabix and plasters come in a promotional tin which we now use to store those things.

Pencil Cases and rectangular sweet tins are handy for doing electronic projects. The case gives great shielding and you can solder directly on to the tin which solves most of the mounting problems.

And you get to eat the mints too.
