    whatsapp doesnt have desktop app.
vibers desktop app doesnt support proxies. (yet)

Anyone know a chat client that can send messages to a smart phone chat app (apple or android) either through a GUI client or more preferably command line firstly though windows and again more preferably linux.

Pidgin works with google chat. Not sure if there are jabber command line clients but if there are, they would work too.

I'm using sendxmpp to send notifications from a bash script on a linux box to my phone via Google Hangouts (formerly known as Google Talk). It is likely in your distro's repos (I know It's in the Fedora and OpenSUSE repos). You can also pull it from CPAN as it is a Perl module.

I'd like to know if anyone is doing similar using another service. Google Hangouts messages are sometimes delayed, though I guess that could be a polling delay on my phone.

I think Pidgin does it too, although i haven't used it in about a year.

Pidgin does Jabber/XMPP for what it's worth. Really love Pidgin, wish there was a mobile port already.
