it seem they couldn't let it rest at Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. they are converting two more fairly successful fighters to film. Tekken and Dead Or Alive. and no prizes for guessing who has something todo with DOA, oh yeah, Paul W.S. Anderson, he's producing it. he doesn't have anything to do with Tekken, so that at least has a chance. ugh what a knob!

Mortal Konbat was ****e! and don't get me started on Annihilation, God, I mean atleast the chick playing Sonya in the first was hot, thats all it had going for it IMO tho, the jokes were true Paul W.S. Anderson cheese too

DOA will most definitely be a rubbish film... but at least it should be easy on the eye.

...and Doom isnt even set on Mars at all in that film for gods sake

I mean with the right script based on the right game and competant production crew many games could be turned into fantastic Tv series or movies. But if the studios keep giving them to bell ends like Uwe Boll and Paul bad film Anderson then there isn't any hope for them. The Resident Evil films could have been excellent but who in their right mind would do a Mario Bros film and actually think it could be good.

Dunno about Far Cry, but theres a Doom movie in the making, last I heard it has nothing to do with hell, it has no deamons (its a bacteria infection or something that controls your mind, how origional!!), and its set on earth. So pretty much its a resident evil rip off taking the name of the 2 best FPS games of their day, its gonna blow :( (this is from a while ago, may have changed and memory may serve me wrong)

I really liked Mortal Kombat though, annihilation was tripe, but the origional had some decent fight scene's in it, and proof that beat em up films can work, check out the 2 manga films of street fighter, both of them are phenomenal, worth checking out. However given the two directors, all hope is lost, heh.

So will DOA be a martial arts or a porn film?

What?? MK was a brutal movie - easily as bad as Street fighter. The street fighter anime movies are good - but I think the subject here is on live action movies :p

Definately. What they think they are actually accomplishing giving these guys jobs, ESPECIALLY Uwe Boll after the mindless trilogy of shít hes churned out lately....

As far as Doom goes, the one good thing is that the lead is played by Karl Urban - who also played Jason Bournes nemesis in the Bourne Identity :)

I have much higher hope for Doom then the other bollocks mentioned already...Tekken and DOA?

Far Cry, now that could be excellent if it was done well.

I'm thinking its a type of movie that would have been great 10 years ago with Arnie :p

mortal kombat was worth it just for the theme tune

I liked Mortal Kombat too, Annihilation was poo though.
However, I'd rate Annihilation above Street Fighter, which was pure crap.
The SF animes are indeed quite good.

The Steet Fighter movie was a joke... such a sad note for Raul Julia to go out on

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,005 ✭✭✭Creature

Yeah must say I'm quite fond of the MK film too. Mostly for the decent fight scenes; sub-zero/liu kang and scorpion/johnny cage etc. but also somewhat for the actor who played Shang Tsung's gross over pronunciation of the word mortal "Mooooooooortal Kombat".

Silent hill film on the way too, a few big names involved though as far as I know.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

Yeah, Silent Hill could be good. It's got Sean Bean in it. He's always been a favourite of mine since Sharpe.

I'm really looking forward to Silent Hill, seeing as it's being handled by a competant director, almost a miracle for film based on a game. Seeing that Sean Bean has been cast, things are certainly looking up for it. I just hope they downplay a lot of the monsters that dominated the more 'Action' scenes of the games and focus more on storyline, tension and atmosphere. Last thing we need is another Resident Evil, but I'm hopefull for something more akin to Jacob's Ladder in tone.

Doom, Farcry and whatever else I'd likely see out of morbid curiosity. Doom looks like it'll be nothing more than a rehash of Resident Evil going by the plot that's offered for, but if all else fails it could be a bit of no-brain fun. Farcry, I don't know... I enjoyed House Of The Dead because that main action sequence had me pissing my hole laughing. He's also doing Hunter: The Reckoning, and as funny as I found HOTD, I don't know how much enjoyement I can gleam from such repugnantly bad films.

Silent Hill could be brilliant. I hope they do it like Silent Hill 2 which was more a psychological journey of somebody totally overcome with grief than a silly horror game. They better give it a horrible ending as well. The bad endings of Silent Hill 1+2 were always the best.

The aliens from Silent Hill 1 have to be a personal favourite.. if they could rope that in id leave the cinema satisfied

Must say that sounds quite promising, then again... it completely relys on who directs it.

BTW Bloodrayne movie is in post production, should be out soon. I predict straight to video however.

I honestly find this the greatest mystery of modern times...why is Uwe Boll in the directing profession?

Why are all his crap movies based on video games? (I have a slightly older non-video game adaption movie of his, its okay)

And why an earth do they keep hiring him?????

People pay to see his movies, simple as that. Whether they thought it was any good or not in irrelevant as long as it was on the money.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 50,862 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

It's a bit like the first resident evil movie. It didn't make much money but it was on a shoestring budget so it still made a profit. He also seems to have a few fans that hail him as the new Ed Wood.
