Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

And yet PS2 games were sold via PSN later, presumably played through emulation.
It simply wasn't a money spinner, so why invest in it.
At least it wasn't the embarrassment that the Xbox emu was on the 360.

In Sony's defence it's a much better emulator that had been constantly worked on to increase compatibility.

    It's all academic now anyway.
PS, PS2 and Xbox are all cheap as chips, no need for emulation you can just get the original hardware, plenty of spares online too.
A region free PS2 and a modded Wii would seem to be the way to go tbh, every PS, PS2, Wii and GC game ever released will run on those two consoles.

Would the ps2 hd setup not load any region games? Like bypass the region check.

Yep! Loaded loads up over the weekend and they all worked great.

Between the Wii and PS2's harddrive mods you have a mountain of stuff covered.

These are, of course, legally held games that you've backed up to the HDD..... ahem..... ;)

Most of them are in that shared Arcade & Retro warehouse, you know, the one where everyone on the forum owns every game ever made. It's quite a sight to behold :D

It'll be a great combo with that console >jamma adapter. Loads of great arcade ports to run on the cabs.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,630 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

It'd be amazing alright, to have all of those shmups and arcade ports, with the Tate option enabled, piped straight into the cab.....

Well now that you mention it, I did get the PS2 basic (i.e. d-pad + buttons) functionality working yesterday - hoping to get the analogue sticks done soon.

Waiting on parts to try and fix the audio stuff :(

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,829 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

NTSC games can be copied to HD from a PC. It still won't read different region discs even if chipped strangely. (that's within the HD Loader.)

I'm going to go down that road then, it makes the most sense given the limited 60hz options on PAL games. I picked up a working ps2 and Wii both with controllers for 20 quid, now's the time to be picking up a few spares for the future.

Cheap nintendo bundle over on Adverts, not to well up on the NES prices although this seems like pure dreamer material. 450 euros, I have no words.

"screen protector is a bit loose"

Yeah or maybe just after falling off

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,390 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

haha yeh if you look at the pics its clearly off the gameboy! i didnt even spot that before.

Looks like the ad was up yesterday too. I can only see her comments. Looks like some people called her out on it, she said she didn't know what it was worth and the she would take it down and re-list it. If that the re-listed price I shudder at the thought of the original price.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,390 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

Just looked at the ad from yesterday, looks like its sealed, though i dunno how the screen cover came off if it is. unless the glue dryed up or something.

How much is that worth? Assuming the screen wasn't busted?

If that is genuinely sealed, you'd be fairly sick that the screen bit came loose alright!

Here's another on the bay, wonder what it goes for:

That'll be really interesting to watch end, I wouldn't have valued something like that at very much at all. Another example of gaming items on the increase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,146 ✭✭✭CathalDublin

is it also chipped in the top left?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,390 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

Dont think thats a chip, the gameboy has grooves on each side up the top like that. and one that goes across it just under those.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,146 ✭✭✭CathalDublin

Sorry I meant the screen bezel, I think it might be

Must be handy having a shrink wrap machine...

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,390 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

its upside down! the rounded corner should be on the bottom right. she may have shook the box until it fell into place.

Or else opened it, put it on upside down, then shrink wrapped the box.

Or maybe it's a super rare upside down bezel version and that justifies the price? ;)

She'd get away with stones in the box if it was this one!

I can't post urls as I'm a new user but someone is charging over $500 for Suikoden 2 on Amazon. I have Suikoden 1,2,4 and 5. Any idea how much they would be worth realistically?

Best way to value any game is on the ebay sold listings

I'd go with 70, 90, 20, 20 in the order you've listed them. Give or take a tenner.

our work here is done :D

My mame cab is still there.
    Ipac,PC,trackball sticks/buttons/coin door for 300quids
    no interest
Sure its not a cab for an arcade aficionado but I would of thought someone would like it for 300

That's why I can't understand adverts at all
You'll have some crazy person put something similar up for €1000 and they'll get offers for €600 and refuse them.
It's the same with everything on that site, I've often listed phones for €250 which were worth about that and I'd get €100 offers, and timewasters.
Then I'd have a look at others adverts and they'd have them listed for €500 and getting offers for €400, that they are turning down .

You would probably be as well off to stick a multigame and a second hand monitor into that and accept €600!

Put it for 700 and you'll be offered 300 for it , guaranteed.
I've put items there, at a good price, and they've stayed for ages. If I over price them I get offers in a matter of days.

Listing something for cheap can devalue it in peoples minds and they no longer want it.

    Utterly bizarre but it happens.

I've honestly never seen or heard of anyone not buying something because it was cheaper than expected.

    No no.

As in the perception of something listed at 600 is different to the perception of something listed at 300. I'm talking about specialized items by the way, not things everyone immediately knows the value of (like an iPhone or something)

At especially low values people start to think the item must have something wrong with it or be built out of cheap components. (Not saying yours is 'ledge, no harm relisting it higher I reckon)
