Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Desire S s-off and root?

I bought my phone (allegedly) sim free here in the Middle East where I work. I've noticed that some users seem to have more up to date versions of Android and Sense than me, I'm on Android 2.3.3, Sense 2.1.

So... I put my Irish sim card into the phone to see if it would detect an update & it would not connect to a network.

Is it possible my phone is sim locked? I know that it is s-on. What versions should I be on?

The sim seems to be working fine in a cheap Samsung I have.

Does anyone have a link to a good beginners guide to rooting and s-off'ing while still retaing the stock ROM and getting HTC's ota updates. BTW using Android for about 2.5 years, just never felt the need to root.

I don't think you need S-Off to unlock the phone. If it's sim locked the phone makes it pretty clear with a screen during boot and you can't make calls etc. It's likely you're network operator in Ireland.

For what it's worth I don't think you need S-Off for rooting/flashing either. I did it to test a custom kernel but I'd rooted and flashed the phone long before that.

Is there much difference between rooting/S-OFFing a Desire S and a regular Desire?

Also, do you know if CyanogenMod is as stable on the Desire S as it is on the Desire?

I'm wondering about this too, I need to s-off my wildfire s and I need to do it before I can root mine, I'm sure the same applies to the desire? Or is it one of the ones HTC decided to unlock the bootloader for?

Anyone on the forum with an xtc clip in Dublin?

S-Off the Desire S is pretty simple. Check out the XDA Forum for Desire S. I have one and have it S-Offed and Rooted for months now.

There is an official Cyanogenmod also, only released last week. Works perfect,
