Worpress database wrong domain

I am trying to resolve a website issue for a community group.

They had somone put up a wordpress install for their website but it was set temp to a domain that expired.
I need to change the dns address to the new details,
that part is easy.

The guy who did the install says I need to change the URLs in the WP db through MySQL as the domain name has expired is in the WP db.

Can anyone tell me how to do this,
I have the myphp logins, but what script would I need to do this?

There's no script, you change it manually editing the table values.

I find it easier to download the SQL file with phpmyadmin (or whatever SQL tool you use), and do a global search and replace. I then clear all tables from the DB and import the updated tables from the changed SQL file.

It's possible that some data referencing the domain could be stored in serialised form in the database, and the search/replace would miss that data. It's never been a problem for me though, and I've done this operation many times.

Another option I read about is the Velvet Blues Update URLs plugin.

I have been meaning to try it out as I do all my WordPress development on a temp sub domain before moving the theme and db to the live server. I simply Export the data, do a search/replace and Import it to the live server.

The serialization issue when you're changing domains manually in the WP database usually occurs if the old and new domains are not the same length - as in number of characters - then it can cause problems, particularly with widgets.
