Good, I really don't want Nolan to go near a Bond, he could do with something a bit different.

I was never interested in Nolan being involved in a Bond movie. I’d rather see him meld his influences into something interesting instead of making a straight up Bond movie.

Besides how do you believe a guy called Baz Bamigboye...

I'd still love to see someone do an origin story for a Bond-like character... take the notion of an orphaned Brit being turned into a double-O MI6 agent and take it all *way* too seriously. There's a cracking movie in the idea and someone like Nolan could pull it off excellently.

Be interesting to see who will be cast as the villain as Bardem was great in Skyfall, a few other forums seem to suggest Kevin Spacey to unite with Mendes and his career is on the up after his performance in House of Cards

Steve Carell has said he wants to play a Bond villain :P

Bardem was one of the low point of Skyfall for me personally

He wasn't terrible but I think he got a load of praise for an average enough performance

Yeah I hope they bring Quantum back, a lot of the stuff from QoS was left unresolved wasn't it? It annoyed me about Skyfall that Bond is now supposedly a broken down over the hill agent, he was a rookie 00 in Casino Royale ffs I know they're supposed to have a short career but still, CR and QoS were only a short time apart so that's basically the same assignment.

Ya, this frustrated me about it as well.

Skyfall would have been a good way to end the Brosnan era before bringing in Craig, in my opinion.

Ya, this frustrated me about it as well.

He was still pretty ripped for someone "out of shape" after arsing around on a beach drinking Heineken for months :pac: I just don't know what direction this will go in, I did think having Bond injured was a good thing, had no issue with that, but showing him as some dinosaur agent after just two onscreen missions was a misstep IMO. If it was Craig's last time in the role then yeah sure, but he's signed on for at least two more isn't he? it was basically Rocky III, Bond got too comfortable and injured, then goes off the radar and in order to defeat his new enemy has to go back to his roots and find the eye of the tiger :pac:

There was plenty to like in Skyfall, made Bond a bit more human, I liked the finale, looked gorgeous, great theme song. But the constant references to the older films got tiring and it undid a lot of the positive stuff that Casino Royale did with the franchise. And some of the plot is absolutely ludicrous, the subway train of doom being the biggest one.

Idris Elba as the antagonist? Would rule him out of being a bond later but he'd be fantastic in both a physical & mental sense. If you cant tell I'm going through a bit of a Luther binge.

Not the first time he's been linked to the role. If it happens I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see Nolan helming.

I really wish they'd give Muse a crack at doing a Bond theme, this basically IS a Bond theme

play that music over any recent Bond opening credit sequence, totally suits

I won’t accept anyone but Lana Del Rey doing the next Bond theme. Her fragile voice and lyrical obsession with older men, broken hearts and death is perfect for Bond.

    Mark Strong yes, Rihanna, no.

The music and opening for Skyfall actually work pretty well in fairness :)

Skyfall represented an "ultimate Bond" movie in many ways - locations, old school villain, action sequences, girls - with some of the new as well.

It was such an embodiment of a Bond movie that both looked to the past and the future. It got me to thinking that it will very interesting to see what they do next. Make it bigger? Smaller? In space??? :)

One thing I don't think we've ever seen is Bond teaming up with another male agent, on a equal footing, for the whole movie, who doesn't turn out to be evil. I think that would be an interesting idea. I know he's everywhere now, but somehow I see Benedict Cumberbatch involved, playing perhaps the mysterious 001 - Bond and he team up and work together to defeat whatever the threat is.

And it would be good if 001 didn't turn out to be evil in the end; that he was good and perhaps flawed with questionable morals but not a bad guy. Someone for Bond to work with and against at the same time. So more of a personality-driven movie.

I loved the London setting of Skyfall but I don't think we'll see that again. Certainly something urban / city based rather than in some faraway location would be good.

What do you think? What would you like to see?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,595 ✭✭✭Giruilla

I hated Skyfall.. don't think I could even bring myself to watch it again.

Hope they get rid of Craig and bring in someone less uptight and with a bit of charisma. Craig can't pull off suave - and thats what Bond should be. They need to put the fun back into Bond films.

I'd like to a huge supervillian with a base in the next one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,109 ✭✭✭eviltimeban

Wow, I feel the opposite. While it took me at least two watches to really like Skyfall, a return to the Bond of old would not be what I'd want.

One thing however that would be cool, were it probably improbably, would be to set a Bond movie in the time the originals were written, ie late 50s / early 60s. Make it a very retro-stylish film, but obviously avoiding any Austin Powers similarities.

Interesting, but I think having Craig set in a late 50's environment would be a bit too jarring for the viewer.
If they really want to make it relevant and modern they should probably have it in the middle east with Bond fighting Islamic terrorists.
The studios have to play it safe though.. Skyfall was the bland equivalent of shopping at Debenhams. There was nothing memorable about it.. total by the numbers action scenes and a villain with a master plan so contrived it was tiring.

Yeah there were serious plot holes, but the saving grace was its London setting and more urban style. I tend to focus on those bits.

Yeah I don't mean it would be Craig in the 60s; it would have to be a different actor, someone who embodies the 60s version of Bond a bit more. But then again you might as well just watch Goldfinger at that rate!

  • Registered Users Posts: 535 ✭✭✭Telecaster58

Skyfall was quite poor on my opinion. Considering the advance in CGI and Special Effects in general, the train crash was like a throw back to the sixties.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,701 ✭✭✭Bacchus

I really enjoyed Skyfall. It served up something fresh in a tired franchise. Much preferred that to simply upping the action, gadgets and girls as has happened in the past.

Yeah, that's not an original idea though is it? Haven't you seen films like Dr.No, Goldfinger etc?

I always had this idea (before skyfall showed Bond was his real name and not a codename) that wouldn't it be deadly if a previous Bond (I guess Pierce Brosnan) was the bad guy. Probably fly in the face of all the previous films but it would be deadly.

It could still be done, just basically convince the Craig bond he has been brainwashed to believe he grew up there in Skyfall (they brainwash all the bonds this way), the likes of Kincaid are actors, the other bonds (i.e. Brosnan) found this out and tries to "liberate" the current bond to work with him against the government which screwed him over and left him in prison.

I thought Skyfall was the best Bond since Connery's stint. Far more about the story than the stunts, though there were still plenty of those.

Two of Craig's three outings so far have been blinders, if they get the next one right, he really will rival Connery as best Bond.
