    Hi,

Ok, I keep getting spots on my cheek - just one or two - or worse - two in one - and its like a boil - goes away for a bit then comes back in the same place. They are really sore and huge. Is this adult acne? If so have any of ye had it and if so what can you recommend? I had this a few years ago and got anitbiotics - considering that route again though I dont want to. Thanks in advance. Oh I'm 30 TBH..

Try ketsugo. I swear by it as its the only thing that works on my skin i put it on before makeup on my t zone (its clear stuff so you wont see it) and it stops my skin getting too oily and getting spots.

Washes with tea tree oil are great too as its a natural antiseptic and even though its hard make sure not to keep touching the spot!

Lets remember that we can’t and won’t give any medical advice here folk. The OP will get that from a GP and not from us. What we can offer is tips on cleaning regimes and concealing.

It sounds as if it is been caused by hormones, especially if it is just localised and more cystic or boil like in appearance.
If that is the case then going to the GP is your best option.
A good skincare routine will help, but if you have a skin problem over the counter cosmetic products will only improve it by 1 %. A cosmecutical product such as a doctor brand that you till only find in a skin specialist clinic will improve it by 20%. The other 80% of skincare is internal, be it good diet or supplements if it caused by a digestive problem, reduced stress if it flares up at stress full times, or if it is hormonal or caused by other medication then that is when you need the help of a dermatologist.
Over the counter acne and spot treatments wont cure a skin problem like yours

Agree, with last poster. Boils and painful bumps like that indicate cystic acne which are usually hormone related. The problem is under the skin really so applying topical creams doesn't make a blind bit of difference. In fact it just dries out the surface of the skin and makes it look worse.

You should visit your GP if its an ongoing problem and they may recommend a course of antibiotics or even the contraceptive pill (presuming your female of course).

This might sound silly but are the spots appearing where your phone might be touching your skin.

I was getting spots for ages and one day was getting my make up done in BTs. The girl suggested that I wipe any phone I use with an detol wipe every couple of days.

I started doing that and the spots stopped.

interesting - and yes I think it may be hormonal - I am going for a skin analysis on fri and if not happy with that then will go to the doc - I have had this before - about 6 years ago and i went to the doc and asked if I had acne and he laughed at me - but I have a different doc now so he may be a little more tactful. cheers.

yep - its hormonal alright.. I have a cyst so the spot just keeps coming back..

    they recommended skin abrasion therapy?

but I reckon I will have to see my gyne and get it sorted from that end.. waiting on an appointment..

is the abrasion thing worth a go? Anyone had one and if so what to you think?

:) Interesting! I have a similar spot. Well I should say HAD!! lol

I first got the spot around three months ago, and treated it as a "normal " spot - used sudocream liberally at bed time etc! It faded and I thought it was gone, but on closer inspection I realised it was still there, just under the skin. (mine is also on the bottom of my cheek, near my nose)

I assumed it was hormonal also, and as I had been off the pill for a few months, I decided I would go back on it to help control my spot problem.

Anyway.... it flared up again about three weeks ago, but even bigger than originally. ANd really red!! Again I tried the usual treatments, sudocream, etc but to no avail. After two weeks of waiting for it to go, I went to my chemist, who suggested "Say yes to Carrots" Mud mask. To apply as a mask but also to stop spots forming or already present, overnight to dry them up.

To be fair the mask is really good and clears up any blemishes I have and any "normal" spots before they form even. BUT this bloody mutant spot (which i can only describe as kind of blister like but with no visible pus or "head" on it to squeeze - sorry!! :o) refused to shift!

Out of pure frustration I decided to take measures into my own hands last night!! And I got a hot flannel and held it to it until a sort of head formed and SQUEEEEEZED! :p Hardish cream stuff came out and a good bit of blood so im hoping the spot is dead! BUT my face is ruined today from all the squeezing and friction caused by the face cloth has left a burn like mark on my poor cheek!

So moral of the story - dont squeeze the bloody thing!

Im worried now that it is caused by cysts though! I will see if the bloody bugger justs effs off now but if it comes back i shall have to seek dermalogical help! I wonder if its covered by the medical card?

I had those ones on my cheek that would appear, disappear, flair up, but never go red, nothing visiable about it in anyway as Yungwan described her one, tried loads to get rid of them then one nite outta pure frustration & annoyance at them I remembered I had ingrow go & I'm not allergic to it or anything cos I've used it loads as it's a great little must have beauty kit product for me, just never had a need to try it out on my face, even tho you can.

I got a cotton bud, dabed a little of the Ingrow go onto it, applied it to the spots, that soaked in... nothing, did it again 5 min later it lured out all of what was causing the spots .... which looked like a lot for two tiny spots & they've never reappeared again. Wasn't sore, didn't leave any red marks only thing that did happen was where the gunk exited formed a tiny scab but I expected that. I still don't know myself to be able to rub my hand over my cheek & not feel the damn things there!

Be sure to rule out allergies.

I went to a dermatologist who took a biopsy (left a scar) gave me lots of topical cream, no joy.

Then i went to a beautician who gave me lots of vitamins that were barely edible, no joy.

The I read about milk causing pussy spots. Took no dairy products for 2 weeks and guess what.....my years of acne vanished!

And to think of the money I wasted

Haven't had any acne in 2 years since I gave up the dairy (take supplements etc.)

I have never heard of this product. What exactly is it? ANd where could I get it?:)

Google says it's a solution for easing out ingrown hairs. Dunno how comfortable I'd be using this on my face for a purpose it wasn't designed for...

Ingrown hairs are treated in a similar way to spots. The general ingredient in these kind of products is salicylic acid which is also a main ingredient in spot treatment products.

Exactly the salicylic acid is used in spot & acne treatments and I won't be buying anymore useless stuff for spots anymore. The Ingrow Go for me gets rid of spots pretty much straight away without any pain.

And Michelleman it is completely safe to use on the face, now I was very wary of trying it. First double checked I could use it on my face & then away with me as my last bid to rid the spots at home!!

Yungwan it is for ingrown hairs but me from using it I knew that to rid the ingrown hair it lures them up to the surface of the skin for them to exit so I was like "f if least if there is something lurking out of sight that I can't see on these spots I will at least make it visable or lure it out" .... down side of if the solution stinks .... smells like nail polish remover!
