Many schools are saying they want notification by Fri 7 Jan .Many teachers are saying theyre going to continue as normal until 20th and 'think it over'...Dont be caught out !Too many teachers been devastated in last while by new inferior T+Cs .Some teachers at our place this week gutted to find they not only werent getting paid for 'normal' S+S but also the MANY extra hours they had done on 'individually agreed contract' that was being pushed by management .Of course you might say they should have informed themselves better but the union were telling phone callers at one stage they would definitely be paid for work done already.

Where are you getting this information about tomorrow from? It feels like scaremongering.
The form hasn't been issued and it is not the end of the month. The ASTI advise letting your principal know before the forum. I haven't heard of any school pushing for the 7th?

    From the TUI

"An eligible teacher wishing to exercise this option must submit a notice (on a form to be provided by the Department/ ETB) by the end of the month following the issuing of the Circular. This opt-out will be effective from 1 January 2014."

    From the ASTI
"ASTI members who are eligible to opt out and who wish to opt out are required to fill out a Department of Education and Skills form and submit it to the school principal. However, since this form is not yet available from the Department, the ASTI is advising members who wish to opt out to submit their decision in writing to the principal as soon as possible.

ASTI members who are eligible to opt out and who have not yet made a decision about supervision and substitution are advised to continue to do supervision and substitution and/ or advise the school principal that they are available to do supervision and substitution until they submit formal notification with their final decision."

'Scaremongering',theres a word thats been abused over last few months .Up there with 'disignenuous' at this stage...Our school has a sign up saying opt outs must be in by tommorow .If principals are to plan for the 20th they would presumably want to know (well) beforehand) who is 'in' and 'out'.

I don't think I've used that word recently. You've posted about "getting your opt out letter in" then went off on a tangent into a wikipedia article about deloitte?

Your school has a notice up, that is very different to "many schools". Have you queried this with your principal? It is against the advice on both the unions websites.

There are already several threads open on S&S. Sources have been provided as to why tomorrow is not the deadline but teachers considering opting out should maybe let their principals know even before the circular so they can plan the schedule.
It is important that information of such an imperative nature is completely transparent and accurate. For this reason, I am closing the thread.
