Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lockers in Lloyd vs Hamilton

    Well lads,

Just after changing to Comp Sci after a pathetic attempt at first year BESS. I'm commuting this year so I would really like a locker. I've never actually been into the Lloyd or the Hamilton buildings .. Are there any differences between the two locations in terms of lockers?

I did a bit of digging in the forums and one post said Ham lockers were 24 hours and slightly bigger?
Not too sure if 24 hour is too big a deal, so if I were to make the 6:45 demand lockers and had the pick, which should I go for?

    Thanks

Lloyd are bigger as far as I remember (2 lockers per tower).

Hamilton and East End (basically the basement of the Hamilton), are mainly 4 lockers per tower. The mad rush for the Hamilton is due to the fact that some of them are located directly outside some of the labs so people find it handy to store lab coats in them.

Never underestimate the handiness of 24 hour access though. I've had to collect and/or store stuff in my locker plenty of times outside of regular building hours.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Yeah I suppose it could be pretty handy. Even for nights out and whatnot. What are the hours for the Lloyd lockers do you know?

I think it's 8am-6/7pm. Disability Service (sidenote: handiest webpage for building hours) claims it's 24hr swipe access but I've never known anyone who has tried to get in past 6pm.

Yeah I saw that and it confused me a little.
Grand job anyway, i'll have a little nosy around at them tomorrow anyway.

    Thanks for the help!

To round out the thread for any wondering, I went into the Lloyd today and asked at the reception desk about them.
According to him you can get into the building 24 hours a day by swiping your student card.
The lockers in there were 4 high too, not sure if I was looking in the wrong place (the basement) or if it's been changed.

Would it be too late to get a locker in Hamilton tomorrow?

Don't know about the Hamilton, but the Lloyd lockers definitely aren't roomy. Could barely fit my laptop in mine last year.

Someone told me to go to the security desk in the Arts building for lockers and they told me they wouldn't open until next Monday - is that true or can I get a locker somewhere else sooner? Also do you get to pick what building your locker is in or are you assigned a building?

You'll just have to wait I'm afraid. People queue up at the security desk and when its your turn just tell them which building you want. You'll get a form with your locker number on it and you can go back and pay for it later in the day if you want or continue queuing.
The Hamilton lockers generally go first, but the Lloyd and East End (basement of the Hamilton) are less popular. Some people queue for hours, but I personally wouldn't bother, I'd recommend going in at 11 when the queue has cleared.

You can even go in the next day usually and get a locker in the Lloyd. That's what I did last year.

Would queuing early be required to get a locker in the Arts block and would the smaller lockers fit a bicycle helmet and some sports gear? Thanks

I've gotten lockers in the Lloyd for the last 3 years. Always went in mid week and never had any issues getting one. Arts block on the other hand is mental apparently.
