Limerick to Kilkenny vis Motorway

My username would suggest that i should know this already, but im about to print out my wedding invitations and wanted to make sure i have the driving directions perfect..

To take the motorway to Kilkenny, you head out the Ballysimion road and join the Main M7 Dublin motorway right ?
Then after how long approx do you take the exit, or what would that junction be that called. Is it at Borris On Ossory ?
Im just a little confused looking at the maps, as many of them dont seem to be updated with the new roads.

Help would be gladly apprectiated ?

My, you both like driving.

If your guests have a driving license then any route will be fine.

Personally:

Limerick-Newport-Thurles-Urlingford-Freshford-Kilkenny

I drive for a living and I would't go in any other direction. They are good roads, not motorways, but good roads.

I had a family member in hospital in Kilkenny last year and found this route to be the best, not necessarily the shortest but having tried a few others I ended up using it for the rest of the trips.

Nothing against Bear Baron's route but Limerick to Thurles can be nightmare of a road if your stuck behind a lorry or something. I find the M7 as far as Borris On Ossory, then onto Kilkenny via Durrow and Ballyraggart the handiest.

Agreed, but I'd go Tipp, Cashel, Urlingford etc. That road through Newport to Thurles is awful.

My Passat is wide enough for the roads and the surface between Limerick and rearcross which was a joke was resurfaced 1.5 years ago so much better.

Divided opinion so.

For the purposes of heading to a wedding from Limerick to Kilkenny on a Friday morning, i thought the M7 would have been the easiest.
Many people know the Thurles route anyway, so maybe its best to leave out the Thurles route on the directions. Im confused now.

I should have got married in the Abbey Court like my mother said.

I travel to Kilkenny every weekend and in my opinion the Newport- thurles road is awful. The way I go and would suggest is to stay on M7 until exit 25, come off there and into Borrisoleigh and on to Thurles. You can also avoid Urlingford by getting onto Cork-Dublin motorway outside Two-Mile-Borris for a short distance and exit there at exit 4. From there it's a straight run in to Freshford and Kilkenny.

Used to drive to Kilkenny almost every day when I worked for Chorus and I found to use the motorway as far as Borris On Ossory take old dublin road for about half mile and take first turn to the right and head to durrow the quickest route

Another easy route is to go through Tipp and then heading towards Clonmel now bypassed all completely signposted is also an easy route

I know all of the other routes suggested here and I definetly would advise not going from Newport to Turles this road is a nitemare and extremely bendy and dangerous in places.

Living in Limerick and from Kilkenny originally so I've driven every way imaginable. I always go Limerick - Tipperary - Urlingford - Kilkenny. It's the way I like best.
