New Releases To Look Forward To In 2014

Just seeing the post about Grand Magus in the 2013 makes me realise the end is nigh...for this year anyway, and that we can start looking forward to new releases for 2014. So like before, discussion, news can be kept in one place. Lets hope its as good a year as this year.

Only band I know right off the bat that will have a release next year is Anathema. They posted up pics online today of setting up the studio in Norway and that today was the first day recording. This is great news for me, as enjoyed Weather Systems, and We're Here Because We're Here is a masterpiece of musical writing.

Any other releases that anybody knows of in the pipeline?

P.S Metallica might have a release next year.

Foo Fighters (due in the summer)
Mastodon (entered the studio this week)
Machine Head (currently in the studio)
Linkin Parks new one (entering studio in January as far as I know. I'm always hoping with each release they go back to the old Hybrid Theory/ Meteora sound!)
Bullet for my Valentines new one (can't be any worse than Temper Temper)
Blink 182 (coming in the summer)

    Hopeful guesses could be:
Metallica late in the year if they get their arses in gear
Slipknot. Due to record early next year but who knows how long that could take
Them Crooked Vultures. Unlikely be I can always dream
New QOTSA. Josh was quoted a few months back saying he has enough material for another album, was hopeful of getting it out within a year or two.

Hopefully Tool will have their album released sometime in the next year. That is easily the one I will be most looking forward to.
The Foo Fighters are working on a new album as well, from the little I have heard the process seems to be going well and exciting the band so hopefully the end result is another solid album

Those are the releases i'm definitely looking forward to, Metallica's 10th album should hopefully (fingers crossed) be out this year if they are going to debut a new song on their summer run.

I think Slash is also planning to release another album in 2014, IN FLAMES also have a new album due in 2014

Also the new Woods of Desolation album As The Stars in February. The album art is frickin' awesome I must say.

I don't think it will be a disaster as I think Floor is probably a better singer than Anette, but I don't think it will be this year anyway (based on vague memories of a facebook update after Showtime, Storytime was released)

    Cracking album.

I remember seeing them tour this album in the now gone Theatre Royal in Limerick, at Feile in Thurles, and again in Belfast the same year.

It's an album that still sounds fresh today, and is always a great one to chuck on for a listen.

The only criticism I have of the album is that the production is a little weak in places, and I would love to see the album get a remastered deluxe edition job done.

Come March 28th, I get the standalone* remastered release ( and a short tour for the album again) I wanted. :D

*I know it was rereleased last year but only as part of a box set.

The mighty Behemoth release their 10th studio album titled "The Satanist" on the 3rd of February. I've been listening a lot to Evangelion and The Apostasy over the last week or so in preparation,

Another new track off Cynic's Kindly Bent To Free Us:

Can't say I'm feelin' either of the tracks released to be honest, especially the lyrics, which is a shame because their last album Traced In Air was particularly strong in that department I thought :-/

I'll reserve opinion until I hear the album in its entirety though.

The Treatment will have a new album out at the start of February.
Their new song sounds like Down Payment Blues by AC/DC with some Def leppard thrown in there, it's pretty good.

New Electric Wizard album in the works. Also, original drummer Mark Greening is back in the band.

Coming 2015. If the Wacken 2013 DVD is anything to go by, then it will be well worth the wait.

Yep, saw them in Birmingham just over a year ago not long after Floor joined, she's a really good singer and frontwoman.

Tuomas Holpainen has an solo album out this year based on Scrooge McDuck, I'm not sure what to make of that, though!

The tracks that Alcest and Cynic have released already have left me pretty disappointed. I totally get where both bands are going but so far I'm not impressed. Though that might change when I listen through in full.

Wolves In The Throne Room are releasing a new record this year too.

The new Scar Symmetry has me really excited though! :D Pretty interesting concept.

The Guardian (!) gave The Satanist 5/5 link. I was leafing through the usually uninteresting music review section and saw a picture of Nergal accompanying the review.

I like Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel, great video too.

    Anathema announces new album!
Recently, Anathema's singer/multi-instrumentalist Daniel Cavanagh announced that the band has been working on its 10th studio album, and that it is scheduled for release in May of this year.

Cavanagh stated that he was influenced by Radiohead and Atoms for Peace, and that some tracks will have a slightly more electronic feel. He also talked about a possible short acapella song. He says the next album will follow the same path than the previous two, but he stated that, on those past releases, the band has played it a bit safe, and that Anathema plans to gradually shift away from that on the next few albums.

Have the album. Great listen when you are in the mood for something loud and fun.

A couple of dud tracks on it that sag a bit midways, but the good tracks more than make up for that.

Picked up the new Beasto Blanco album the same week I got the Chrome Division album, and that could have been a stonker if the tempo had been upped a bit more, despite it sounding very much like an Alice Cooper/Rob Zombie (for obvious reasons) mish mash at times..
