Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Do you ever do it?

I had a woman whinging at me at the train station today because she didn't believe I was 15 (OK, so I'm not - she doesn't have to make a fucking song and dance about it). I couldn't be arsed paying the adult fare, I thought I'd try and get a childs ticket.
    "A child's single please"
    "*Smirk* Who's that for then?"
    "Me"
    "How old are you?"
    "15"
'Hrmmmm... whing whing etc. the police will catch you. Be scared etc.'

My nan was the best for it. I remember once coming back to her car, finding a traffic warden standing by it. "This your car, madam". "It is". "You're parked in a disabled bay, do you have a badge."
"Ah sure I do, I just don't like putting it out in front of the kiddies. Scares them". :pac:

Or the time she drove the wrong way down a slip-road, and got caught by the coppers.
"You see.. it's my auntie. She's in hospital and I'm just so worried about her" They gave her a police escort to the hospital. She went in, waited until they left, then drove off again.

    Legend.

My mom takes after my nan.
My dad on the other hand, does everything by the book. If he was given too much change, he'd take it back.

What kind of person are you? Bend the rules or completely adhere to them?

TL;DR: Do you follow rules or not?

    Bend the rules?

Murder would be a fairly big bend, wouldn't it?

I got away with child train tickets (15 yrs and under) until this year. I'm 20 now. Don't know how, I'm 5'9" and don't look young at all.

I'm out of college 3 years and I still buy student cinema tickets. I book online and collect in the machines so they never check.

They did 3 weeks ago though. Some weirdo on the collection made us go back and buy Adult tickets :(

Bending the rules is pretty much the norm in Ireland. I have found a friend of mine from London who has been living here for the last 4 years is only getting used to it now.

Ahh of course bending the rules is alright; to be honest i'd do anything i thought id get away with, especially if it needs or has to be done. but mostly like ye said, just couldnt be arsed.

I think rihanna said it best when she said

"Lifes a game and its not fair
i break the rules so i dont care"

    :D

Haha, but I really don't! There are plenty of pics of me here. Don't know how I got away with it. €20 return from Kerry to Dublin was pretty class. I would have been flat out broke if I payed the student price a couple of times a month.

ah man, buy your own tickets and leave the kids alone

Rules. I break lots of rules. I speed a lot. Never got a penalty point either. At least I don't think I ever got penalty points. I don't actually know because my car is registered to a house I moved out of a year ago. I also don't have a TV licence.
Yeah. I suck. The point is though, would you always just follow a rule that you don't agree with? Like are some laws not just completely fucked up and wrong? I think more than a few are. Not to get into specifics but jesus. Some of the sh1t that people are enforcing is Victorian. For years and years I worked in jobs where I had to show up to a shitty basement office with no air con in a shirt and tie. I hated that so I just stopped doing it. Nobody said a thing to me.
Some rules just don't fucking work any more. Hell even take after hours. We have rules that just don't work a lot of the time so there's an inconsistency because you have to decide whether the rule is the rule or common sense is the rule or your own warped opinion is the rule.
There are lots and lots and lots of times I want to key some fucker's car for whatever reason. Parking in a disable space when you aren't disabled for example. That makes my blood boil. But I can't take that step because there is one rule of the road I always adhere to. You do not fuck with another person's vehicle. And yet people are paid to clamp other peoples cars.

Rules are not made to be blindly followed. Rules are there to solve a problem that exists around the time that the rule was made. As such rules and laws are all too often reflective of a random social constuct that only exists for a short time. Therefore the questioning of these rules should be a continuous and valid discussion. If you don't agree with it, say why. Or break the rules. Because if they're that fucking stupid that I can see that they're stupid then they're too goddamn stupid for me to adhere to blindly.

Neither do I. But then, I don't have a TV.
For years and years I worked in jobs where I had to show up to a shitty basement office with no air con in a shirt and tie. I hated that so I just stopped doing it. Nobody said a thing to me.

Apart from during my probation period I never wore a tie in work. Used to keep one in my drawer in case a client called in and some days, where I had official business, I would wear it from start to end but otherwise it was essentially an arbitrary and uncomfortable imposition which I never felt important to obey.

Having said that, for the most part, I would say, trivial or not, rules are there to be followed.

Thing is ... there comes a point in every man's life where pretending to be a child is a rule that should never, ever, ever be broken
