Linux Training Courses Galway!

Hello,

I currently work for a hosting company as a support tech engineer.
90% of our servers are Linux Based (using CentOS).

I would like to start learning more about the server end of things and help progress my career.
If possible I would love to do an evening course.
These 5DAY courses look crazy expensive and not sure how much I could learn is such a short time.

Anyone who is working as a Linux Administrator at the moment can I ask what salary expectations can one look for.

If anyone can recommend any books or online resources I would be very thankful.

Take a look at the linux+/LPIC1 (same course) materials. It'll expand/cement your knowledge enough that you'll be able to be more confident in work.

It goes in to the basics of commands/permissions/structure of linux along with briefing you on tools to make you a more efficient admin like regex/cron/scripting.

You should be able to get away with the book + videos for less than €100.

Besides you have knowledge base on wiki http://wiki.centos.org/
And I would recommend IRC as well http://wiki.centos.org/irc
You can learn everything on your own believe me.
If you don't have CentOS at home, just install it on VirtualBox and play with it. You don't have to spend money for courses.
There are plenty tutorials available for free.

+1. Of course certs are good to have but I think you learn more by doing it yourself and working it out. Or at least that's what I find. You can always do a cert exam after learning it yourself with a book. YouTube can be very handy here, there are some channels that are quite good.
