Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

China anger over girl 'handcuffed' for spilling drink

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-22691993
Two Chinese officials have been suspended after being accused of handcuffing and parading a 13-year-old girl down a street for spilling a drink on a government car, state media say.
The officials - a Communist Party chief and a police officer - reportedly forced the teenager to walk up and down for 20 minutes.
The incident has caused uproar on Chinese social networking sites.

She didn't exactly walk the yellow brick road, but she's unlikely to do it again.

Sounds like a modern version of the pillory punishment, where the culprit faced public humiliation.

    Good Idea or Bad Idea!

It could deter a few local yobs from being arseholes on the street, rather than lengthy court cases followed by all sorts of juvenile detention etc

Well did she accidentally do it, or "accidentally" do it, spilling water on a car is hardly a major crime but if she was just being an arse then well she wont do that again in a rush.

Bad idea for cases like this.

I would favour public pillory as punishment in cases where the individual has done something where s/he has diminished or attempted to diminish the integrity of civil society under certain conditions, e.g. acts of public vandalism beyond the public interest.

Fair play to the officers, she shouldn't be going around spilling stuff on cars!
