Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Jumps starts work but only temporarily

    My car didn't start this morning for the first time since I have it (5 years). Likely door left ajar and light drained battery (full lights were not left on). I had it jump started by breakdown assistance. Drove 20 mins as instructed. Stopped. Didn't start. Got it jump started again. Drove 1.5 hours. Stopped. Didn't start. Got it jump started for a third time and drove 2 hours home. When I stopped at home same again. Odd that something so small would trigger a dead battery that needs replacing?? But I'm
    Presuming it is going to need replacing?? Any other suggestions or tips that might be effecting it?? Thanks.

    Battery's done for. It doesn't take much to finish off a weak battery. One full discharge and that's it really.

    Battery old/bad or alternator not charging it.
    Do you have a voltmeter?

    It's old - well I've never changed it in 5 years. Seems to be charging ok, when jump started. Battery sign isn't on the dash when driving. Going to get a new battery tomorrow. The joys of old bangers!

    Its the battery, not the alternator. If it was the latter you would get that red light and it wouldn't have been possible to drive it for 2 hours.

    It could still be the alternator even though my money would be on the battery.
    I suggest going to a motorfactors and asking them to test the battery. They will probably test the alternator for you too.
    After that then you know where you are.

    does battery light come on when ignition on if not it may be alternator or rarely dash bulb either way it wont charge battery
