Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

im after buying a 2004 golf 3door. im just after realising that i have no rear speakers. The sound is terrible. No bass at all. From what ive been reading online it looks like its an awful job to remove rear panels in the 3dr models to install speakers. Will changing the stock stereo to a higher end one make enough of a difference or will i need to add rear speakers?
I have been thinking of changing the stereo anyway but i dont want to go and send a few hundred on one if the sound will still be terrible

If you don't mind cutting holes in your parcel shelf you could get someone to put in 6x9" speakers.

Really don't want to do that but if it comes to it it's probably the easiest option

    Horrible idea
Your rear doors have the slot here for speakers from factory.
Simply install new 6.5" speakers in there and run new wires back to the head unit. Yes there is no wires even.
I can help if you need. Done it many times.

Ya I have read that on different sites but it sounds like an awful ordeal. Is it hard get the rear seats out to get the trim off? I've also read that the trim is next to impossible to remove. I don't want to break anything

That's the prototype bluemotion technology, weight saving innit.
They probably charged extra for it haha.

Oh yeah I forgot you have the 3 doors version, a bit harder alright but not a problem to do.

Now the rear speakers will be very close to the front, so I would say you should start with a good system up front to begin with.
We did rear speakers before in Golf and it does make a difference, but better having a good 2/3 ways system up front that crap speakers all around.
Now it all depends of your budget.

Here is a 3 ways components install we did to a Golf 5.

We did the rear doors some time after too
