Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A6 window regulator

    Where would I get a window regulator? Main dealer are charging €180 + €240 for labour, I can get the part from micksgarrage.ie for €86 but it's out of stock until the 16th. Is there much hassle in fitting it, I used to work pannlebeaters over 15yrs ago for about a year so would have a fair idea when it comes to stripping car doors and repairing them.

    If its a pre 04 Audi you can get regulator kit here http://www.autosupply.ie/
    They are not that difficult to fit but you'll have to take window frame out in its entirety. Take less than an hour to fit assuming no problems.

    It can be a bit fiddly. Watch for the spacers inside the door frame. The screws pass through them - mark their position with a pencil before removing the screws. It can be a real pain adjusting the frame, to avoid wind noise, when you reassemble, if the spacers aren't marked.

    Make sure you really need the whole regulator - I'm not sure if this happens on the C6 A6 but a common fault on the C5 A6 is the clips that hold the glass to the cable break. A symptom is that the window will open but not close for a while (after the first clip breaks)...then when the second one breaks the window move at all (but can still be opened and closed by hand, as it's loose)

    With a bit of luck it is only the clips, only way of known is to strip out the frame by the looks of that video.
    My window at times will come down only about 1/4 way but it is a right balls to get it closed, I will have to tap the switch repeatedly but if I go up too far it will come back down, I just have to get it up as much as I can and try to close the rest by pushing up the glass. Suppose there is know real way of knowing without having to strip the door.

    My A6 gave the same trouble about an hour after passing the NCT, I got the whole kit for less than £20 off Ebay uk, only 2 days delivery time to Irl.

    That could well be it by the sound of it. There's one clip on the forward edge of the glass and one on the rear. When one breaks, the window will tilt any time you try to make it go up or down - it will go down more easily because gravity helps it, but when it tries to go back up, being pulled only at one side, it gets stuck randomly. The reason it goes back down again is a safety mechanism, any time there is a high load on the motor the window goes down.

    I was able to get mine to close by pressing my hand against the glass (from the inside) and pushing upwards as I operate the switch - this small assistance was enough to get it closed. After a while, the second clip is guaranteed to break since it's taking twice the weight. Then the window will only move the odd bit as the broken clip catches here and there. Even then, you can open the door, put one hand on each side of the glass and work it upwards by hand when you need to close it.
