staffys english or irish

    hey people need help with a discussion i had with my buddy , whats the difference between irish staffys and english staffys ? are they the same dog or completely different . may seem like a silly question just want to put this to bed

    there basically the same dog only for the irish version is meant to be closer to the orginal staffy,s bloodlines. Many consider them the better version.

    Sorry, Cowzerp but that is not true. The ISBT is not a recognised breed and many many other breeds have been crossed in, for example the APBT, Whippet etc, it is, in fact, a crossbreed. Many so called ISBT are now being ceased in the UK for being of Pit Bull Type under the 1991 DDA.

    The Staff Bull is a recognised breed and has a completely different conformation from the "ISBT", short, stocky and very muscular whereas the ISBT is leaner, bigger and has smaller heads. BIG difference.

    The ISBT is a gimmick and money spinner. It is, as stated, a crossbreed with many fanciful ancestors which cannot be proven as there are no pedigrees apart from the dreamt up ones "breeders" put on their websites.

    Tbh, I think the truth lies somewhere in between.

    The SBT was recognoised by the British kennel club in 1935, and breeders (as happens) started to engineer the breed for a certain look, which became the show standard.

    But if someone was to look at photos of the original SBT they're very different to the show dogs we see today.

    I know two very serious SBT breeders who'll fight you tooth and nail that todays show SBT is a disgusting looking little gimp of its former glory - these same lads call their dogs 'Irish', and I have to say, their dogs look stronger, healthier & closer resembles the original (pre-1935) dog.

    On the opposite side of that coin, the show breeders who are making a mint from their dogs will probably fight (argue is probably a better word) with the same conviction.

    irish staffy??? how can this be? it's called a staffy as it's from Staffordshire in england, unless there's a similar place in ireland then how can there be such a thing as an irish staffy?

    Makikomi, there is no truth in between. The ISBT is not a recognised breed, the SBT is. Simple as that. However, some people confuse the ISBT with Irish BRED SBT - BIG difference.
