David Marciano will not return as a series regular on Homeland, it has been revealed.

The 53-year-old plays surveillance expert Virgil in the Showtime drama, but will not return as a major player in season three, according to Deadline.

The report claims that he may yet return to the series in a guest starring capacity.

Marciano is currently developing a cable prison drama based on a real criminal enterprise that operates from jail.

He is working on the project with his writing partner Steven Pickman and producer Aaron Kaplan, but it is not being viewed as a starring vehicle for Marciano.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Diego Klattenhoff, who plays Nicholas Brody's long-time Marine friend and eventual love rival Mike Faber, would also not be returning to Homeland as a series regular.

However, it has been confirmed that Damian Lewis will return for the upcoming run as Brody, who was last seen crossing the US border into Canada.

Homeland is set to premiere its third season on Sunday, September 29 at 9pm on Showtime,

A little bit more info announced today:
New plot details have emerged for the third season of Homeland.

The Showtime drama's next run of episodes will concern a "global manhunt for the world's most wanted terrorist" Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis).

A release from the cable network reads: "As Carrie (Claire Danes) and Saul (Mandy Patinkin) begin to pick up the pieces of their shattered professional and personal lives, they are swept up in the political and media firestorm surrounding the terror attack and the subsequent search for Brody's whereabouts."

In addition to Lewis, Danes and Patinkin, cast members Morena Baccarin (Jess Brody), Rupert Friend (Quinn), Jackson Pace (Chris Brody) and Morgan Saylor (Dana Brody) are all confirmed to return.

However, neither David Marciano (Virgil) or Diego Klattenhoff (Mike) will return to the show as regulars, though both may appear in a recurring capacity.

Mike is no big loss but I liked Virgil, thought he had an interesting relationship with Carrie and had some good scenes.

"The season three premiere is titled "Tin Man is Down" and will introduce viewers to a slew of troubled, but recovering young adults, including a handsome and charming young man who can sweep girls off their feet. Hmm…could Dana be heading to counseling of some sort? Sounds likely, considering we'll also meet a psychiatrist during the hour"

Sounds underwhelming, to say the least.

‘Homeland’ season 3 to add seven new characters to series

Homeland season 3 will introduce seven new characters to the series with several characters seeming to be centered around Carrie Mathison.

Homeland season 3 will begin filming at the end of May, and we are slowly beginning to feed on news that the series is leaking out. Today, we learned that Homeland will add a staggering seven new characters to season 3 with many of them appearing to be concentrated around Carrie Mathison.
In an article with TV Guide, there was confirmation that the seven new characters are as follows:
Besides the expected new roles of a senator and National Security Advisor, the series is also casting actors to play psychiatrist Dr. Troy Richardson; a grandmother named Lois; a couple of girls in therapy plus a handsome young man named Leo; and a fortysomething guy who ends up being someone’s one-night stand.
Some of the new characters are going to be more integral than others, and we’re interested to see Dr. Troy Richardson, who we assume will be keeping a close eye on Carrie as she is in serious mental meltdown.
Also, we’ll see Lois, who we imagine to be the mother of Jessica Brody. With Jessica going through some serious issues regarding her marriage, we believe that Jessica will confide in Lois, and Lois will also look after Chris and Dana from time to time.

The latter five we presume will be part-time cast members and won’t be essential to the season’s plot. However, we reported news that Dana and Chris will be getting their own storyline in the future back in November, and we hope to see the new characters in Leo and the couple of girls in therapy give life to more character development for the young Brodys.
Homeland season 3 will start filming at the end of May, and premiere on September 29 over on Showtime.

    and taken from http://www.examiner.com/article/homeland-season-3-spoilers-new-characters

A previous spoiler indicated that a Persian female will be playing a reoccurring role and that she will be a central character. E! News verified this rumor and revealed that her name is Fara. She is described as a keen woman whose intelligence and professionalism is unusual for her being so young. Fara will make her first appearance on episode 2, which is titled "Tower of David."

There will also be a group of troubled young adults according to Carter Matt. One will be a master charmer although not much else is known.
Other spoilers have stated that there will be a time jump when the show returns. Also, F. Murray Abraham and Sarita Choudhury will both be series regulars.

and finally a promotion for Saul as reported at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/09/homeland-f-murray-abraham_n_3246611.html

Two familiar "Homeland" faces have gotten a promotion, and they both have ties to the new acting director of the CIA: The one and only Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin).
According to HitFix, F. Murray Abraham has been upped to series regular after playing retired black ops specialist Dar Adal in a few key scenes in Season 2, while Sarita Choudhury will finally be getting more screen time (and, we assume, moving back home) as Saul's wife, Mira.
Although not much is known about Season 3 of "Homeland," it will pick up during the aftermath of the terrorist attack at the end of Season 2 that caused Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) to leave the country with the help of Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes).
Additionally, the new season will find Carrie and Saul working to rebuild their personal and professional lives in the midst of a media firestorm about the terrorist attack and the search for Brody.

The wait for this and Breaking Bad make me want to go in to a coma for the summer and wake up at the appropriate times.

BB is around August 11th and Homeland is September.

    Too far away.

For those who are counting down the weeks and hours, to tide you over I'd really recommend Prisoners Of War, the original Israeli series on which Homeland was based. It's far more slower-paced than Homeland but is superbly-acted and is hugely enjoyable. And the story has some key differences so you're not just watching a subtitled version of Homeland. I'm three episodes into season 2 and so far it's just as good. And the Dana in it is nowhere near as annoying as her American cousin. ;)

Hmm based on these reports and how the second season was, I may not bother tuning in. Does not sound remotely promising.

A whole load more chin wobbling scenes from Carrie!

    Hurry up BB and Homeland!

Some serious wobbling going on alright!

Quinn and Saul are great, and if they keep Brody and Carrie apart it could be decent.

Yup, the leaked copy is minus the usual visual effects - it just has notes like "VFX - Bomb Damage" instead. Still very watchable and quite good.

What do you mean by 'notes' ? Is it a normal episode?

Essentially a workprint.. it's notes to a visual effects artists or editor to edit in a particular item or effects there.

Thanks. So it's not leaked by the production company deliberately in that case!

My guess would be that the guys and gals who put in the visual effects may have friends who know how to upload a DVD fast.

Just watched season 1 and 2, and the first episode here.

Why do the two main women in it have to be such b1tches, there's always one point in each episode where one of them completely loses the plot for no reason and goes bat**** crazy. I like Saul, and plotline is quite decent, but Carrie and Jessica are really annoying.

Just watched it, and was reminded again why I couldn't stand it last time ~ Carrie Danes crying faces, I've no patience for it.

Everything about this show is good except for Danes' overacting. But I can also see a plot like this becoming very messy like last season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,317 ✭✭✭gavmcg92

Was sort of dragging my heels going into watching this episode. While I have some what enjoyed the first two seasons of the show, I don't really remember being blown away by it and not to mention that it has been quite a while since the second season ended, if my memory serves me right.

Really happy I watched it now. Granted, it has nothing on breaking bad which has somewhat overshadowed everything else that I've watched today, I will still however continue watching this.

Got it 2 days ago thinking it was the real one. Managed to get 10 or so minutes into it before actually noticeing that it was a early copy. I'm reluctant to admit that I saw "VFX - bomb crater" on the door of the CIA building and thought to myself, "that's a weird name for a CIA building". :o

Finally realised a couple of seconds later when I heard that ridiculous over dub.

Not overly impressed with the season opener I have to say. I thought it dragged quite a bit and found myself checking to see how much longer was left to go - not a good sign! Still, I'll stick with it a bit longer and hope for an improvement.

I still have a sneaky suspicion, going back to the end of Season 2. that Saul isn't all he seems to be.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 18,511 CMod ✭✭✭✭The Black Oil

    3.01

Solid enough opener, if fairly Hollywood in some respects. A couple of points that'll springboard things to come. Don't recall any memorable lines.

I think these type of congressional hearings can be a bit tedious in TVland, and the chairman seems like a bit of a tool, but it picked up with the immunity thing. Congress close the CIA? Not bloody likely.

So, Dana goes off the deep end, eh? Figures. A bit cheap, perhaps. You just know those pictures and the boy are for a big fight with Jess later on. Saul's still Saul, and there's the burden of command... Carrie got burned a couple of times in this one, she'll be back, though. The Quinn twist was a little cruel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,405 ✭✭✭Dandelion6

Apart from the Congress and CIA scenes, and Carrie's conversation with her father, I found a lot of this really slow going. Does anyone really care about Saul's relationship problems? Does anyone care about the Brody family at all anymore?

And I haven't laughed so much at a foiled assassination attempt since "Munich". As if they'd really call it off just because there was a kid there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,542 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

This show feels more like a soap opera than a thrilling drama.

Showing personal problems such as Saul's marriage and Carrie's extendable lip is probably explained as character development by some but for me it's just the writers filling in time.

I really don't get why this show is highly rated and popular.

It's also very predictable, as in the guy accidently killing the kid.

  • Site Banned Posts: 824 ✭✭✭Shiraz 4.99

Wonder why Saul hung Carrie out to dry, her outburst in the restaurant didn't help her.

This whole Brody daughter thing is a waste of space, I can feel myself reaching for the FF button everytime she's on screen, only her mother is serious eye candy I would be skipping it.

Story jumps on 6 months to where 6 targets have been identified & they are setup to take them down, the work in identifying these targets would have been enough material for a normal season, I hope this time jump brings us somewhere more exciting.

Strange there was no Brody, hey ho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,068 ✭✭✭Tipsy McSwagger

Season 2 was crap. Season 3 started out fairly well but if 30% of each episode is dedicated to the boring daughter then I'm out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 FlawlessWeb

Was interesting comparing the first episode with the leaked version that came out about a month ago. Seems identical for the most part except from the SFX not being in the leaked one.

As for the episode; I enjoyed it and looking forward to the rest of the season. Quinn is definitely the most interesting character.
