Does anyone know what happened the five million fund that was set aside to purchase the Arthur's quay carpark? Every annual document I looked at until 2011/2012 said the fund was full and the option to buy the carpark in 2013 was going to be exercised.

The city council has indicated that it intends to purchase Arthur's quay carpark in 2013.
I see today in the Limerick Leader today the following:
Cllr Daniel Butler, Fine Gael, said the local authority needs to look at purchasing a multi-storey car park.

What has happened to this fund and why was Arthur's quay not purchased? They had an option and agreed cost and the money set aside to make the purchase...

Arthur's Quay is to be demolished under the Limerick 2030 plan.

That doesn't answer his question. To demolish Arthurs Quay, the council first have to purchase it from it's current owners. As of yet it seems that they haven't purchased it, even though they had a fund in place to do so quite a number of years ago.

That's fine, but it's not going to be the solution to the parking problem, which is what Cllr Butler was getting at, I think.

But it will be 3-4 years at least before any demolition could occur. If they owned the car park they could offer free / cheap car parking in town until then.

    Fair point.

A danger with the Council getting into the parking game is that it can be a quite lucrative revenue stream for them, and they could be reluctant to give it up. This has been the case with on street parking and temporary car parks they have built in the past.

Possibly the funds are resting in same place as the funds which were put aside many yrs ago from ennis road swimming pool!

What's the max cost for parking at Arthur's Quay lads for one day (non pre-booked)

I parked there at 08:45 this morning and will be leaving at half 5 this evening. I was of the impression it's €5 max per day (don't know where I heard this), but slightly worried now since I can't find anything on a full day rate; can only see weekly and monthly. Afraid I'll be charged a fortune.

    Cheers

It's €2 per hour or part thereof, so maybe 18-20?

    Well that was pretty optimistic....

At this rate I suspect there'll be very few changes there before 2030.

Was a bit cheeky I’ll admit. Told the security man I forgot my ticket and said I drove in at 4:45. Charged me €2 for a new ticket
