Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

In fairness, I don't think the bible gives Mary's age, although she was certainly a young virgin. I was trying to check on the net and found that according to Eastern Orthodox teaching Joseph was 80 years old at the time  of their marriage.

Then I found this account; "When she was fourteen, the high priest wished to send her home for marriage. Mary reminded him of her vow of virginity, and in his embarrassment the high priest consulted the Lord. Then he called all the young men of the family of David, and promised Mary in marriage to him whose rod should sprout and become the resting place of the Holy Ghost in form of a dove. It was Joseph who was privileged in this extraordinary way". :D
Its not clear who's version exactly, that one is, but at that point it was getting just too weird, even for me.

I try to make priests my last defense for building my wonder because they caused so much confusion. Turning things into a clicking race at the end works well ;)

I find it interesting how you couldn't convert enemy buildings until you researched monotheism. Drove me mad since I usually played as Greece.

Weird. I had a conversation about that game with a friend a couple of hours ago.

Yeah, you send your priests to convert enemies and they go 'wololo', thats what I gather, to begin with I just thought that a religious figure appeared to two rational people, chanted some gibberish, and they started killing each other.

Having never played the game, the above made sense to me :D

You obviously didn't invest into the game online that much. Or else the people you played it with were more sane than the lot I played it with. The only way to shut those damn taunts spam up was to mute the volume of the game.

"Wololo" ; a poor attempt to convey the sound effect in word form. It should represent something of the noise tone made by a buddhist monk chanting.
Is it too late to start the new internet meme; "Wo-wo-wo-wo" ?

This made me laugh when I heard it this morning, maybe it's the way it's reported:
    http://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/match-heart-attack-victim-making-progress-481971.html
A heart attack victim is said to be making good progress in hospital after being brought back to life at the FAI Cup Final in Dublin on Sunday.

A volunteer medic, and other doctors who were at the match attended the scene in the stand at the Aviva, and found the man in his 70s had no pulse and had stopped breathing.

While a priest administered last rites, the medical team used a defibrillator to start his heart beating again.
    I have this Ted-esque image in my head;

Onlooker: He's having a heart attack! Quick, what do we do?!

Priest: Sure, let's just have an aul pray...

When god brings people back to life, it's a miracle. When a doctor brings people back to life, it's just modern medicine and no big deal.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 24,420 Mod ✭✭✭✭robindch

What could have happened, but didn't:

Priest: In nomine patris, et filii et spiritus sancti...
God: He's not dead, he's just resting.
Priest: Grand, I'll grab the doctors then.

Alternatively when god brings people back to life, it's a miracle, but when someone is allowed to die - it's free will!

Five months early for April 1, reports indicate that Brazilian fundamentalists have claimed that USB is Satan's own data connector!

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/the-lay-scientist/2010/nov/15/3
The evangelical cult "Paz do Senhor Amado" ("Peace Beloved of the Lord") in the interior of Brazil forbids its followers to use any USB technology by contending that it uses a symbol that makes apology to the devil.

According to its founder, the "Apostle" Welder Saldanha says that this is just a symbol of Satan, is always present in all Christian homes.

"The symbol of that name (he even likes to pronounce) is a trident, which is used to torture souls go to hell. Use only a symbol of those shows that all users of this technology pífia are actually worshipers of Satan" - explains the" Apostle".

Measures were taken so that all the USB connections of his followers were exchanged for common connections and even the Bluetooth (sic), which according to Saldanha Welder is permitted, for "Blue was the color of the eyes of our savior Jesus Christ".
