    Hi guys,

Not entirely sure that I've posted this in the correct forum but perhaps someone here can
    assist me.

I've a food scales that requires a CR2032 button battery and by accident I bought a packet of CR2016 batteries! These are not cheap, so before I go and open the packaging to see if they will be suitable, could someone tell me if they are indeed interchangeable????

    Appreciate any replies.

    Thanks

I wouldn't know if they're interchangeable, but i used to get those in the Euro shops as you'd get a few in a packet like the batteries for E2, if that part's helpful to you.

short answer is NO they wont work,
    the CR2032 is a 20mm diameter and a 3.2mm tick battery.
    the CR2016 is a 20mm diameter and a 1.6mm tick battery.

if you were to put both is they wouls fit together BUT you will most likely dammage the device as you have doubled the voltage. if your stick you can use one 2016 and then use tin foil to bridge the space between the contracts.

It depends _ voltage wise they're both 3v. If your device uses a side contact for the+ and it's secure enough not to fall out you can use the thinner one no problem

They are cheap in the pound shops, you can buy 8 or 12 of them on a card for a couple of euros.

    Here's a Panasonic 2032 x 12-pack on a blister card from Amazon for GBP 2.74 ......

Had somewhat iffy results with the "poundshop" ones; got a pack of eight, which seemed to be part DOA, and part dying quickly. Baulk at shelling out €6 for the big name brands in the shops for a pack of two, though -- need new ones for a cheapo bike computer that didn't cost much more than that in the first place! Supplied batteries were good for a decent length of time, I think over a year, so you'd think there'd be a happy medium someplace.

Anyone had good results from the "medium names", or otherwise spotted a good bargain?

Not sure how that translates into bike computer years, but might be worth a go! Were they cheap?

I'm immediately skeptical as soon as you say "chemist", mind. I think the Irish Pharmacies Union (or whatever they're called) have as rule number one, "never let a customer out of the shop before they've paid you at least a fiver, no matter for how small an item."

Ooops, last pack I got them in a DIY/electrical store…about 2.50euro or so. got them before in the chemist, but they didn't have my ones last time I went in there, and think they were a little more expensive than the electrical place.

ones out of the pound shop don't last pissing time..

Tesco might be a good compromise between a chemist and the pound shops. The household section usually has a mix of Duracell, Panasonic, Energiser and Tesco own-brand. You can pay for a premium brand or take your chances.....

The problem with a chemist for me would be (1) poor choice (2) high price and (3) slow-moving stock so you'd need to keep an eye on the 'best before' date.

Ah no. The ones I have gotten in chemist before have been Panasonic ones, so they're fairly decent. but flat batteries wouldn't be near as popular as the AA or AAA, so yep, you're definitely right about watching the dates

I found a way to manage to pay more than €6 for a brand I'd never even heard of for CR2032s, in a certain "electronics specialist" outlet. Ouch. (Not that I actually bought them, mind you.) Maybe they're some niche type of remarkably high quality... or maybe that's quite the "specialist" markup. Going rate seems to be between €3-4. No sign that Panasonic are any cheaper than the Duracells, etc, that I've seen so far. I hear talk that another retailer might be slightly cheaper... but they're up a rather steep hill from here, and didn't fancy cycling it in the weather we were having today.

I also asked in Aldi. Apparently they don't normally stock these at all, but did have in some over Christmas.

About a euro each including VAT. Just make sure you don't get ones with solder pins.

I got a pair of Varta-branded ones from an eBay seller for a smidge over €2 including postage. Also surprisingly quick to deliver, from a European seller. Won't drop the name here -- don't want to be pilloried for "shilling", and who knows, they might turn out to be complete crap (fakes, near-expired...?) after a another week. So far, so good, though. Can PM the seller name if anyone need, but easy enough to find with a search.

Ask me again how they're still working out in 6, 12, 18 months, I guess!
