Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

whats that metal thing holding the pencil ?

Its an Xacto knife. The kind used by artists and architects (who also get through a lot of pencils). The knurled part twists to tighten - an LED torch wouldn't do this so wouldn't work.

Shame we cant come up with a standard size for life hacking pictures.

Also, on that last page were a number of items that do not constitute a life hack. The voodoo doll knife stand for example.

I don't have a problem with lending my USB sticks so much with people who think asking me to lend it is no-big-deal. So I do this instead.

    "Can I borrow your thumbdrive?"

    221330.png
*Hold out your hand, palm up*

    "Huh?"

"You can borrow it. But I'll require a deposit. €50."

    "€50!?"

"I'm just as serious about getting my thumbdrive back as you are about getting your fifty back. You're welcome to take it or leave it."

The hold-out-hand-gesture, initial silence, and genuine politeness are each important. If you do it so its like there's some widely known unspoken rule they're ignoring they may be too embarrassed or obedient to protest. Most importantly they'll not want to ask you in future if they've they're the kind who just can't get their sh't together and make a habit of this.

If they haggle, the correct response is, politely but firmly:

    "I'm sorry, but €10 isn't €50."

There's nothing as frustrating to argue with as a murderously self evident fact and no way to change the scope of the argument. They'll give up, and its unlikely they'll be back.

If they do actually agree (its never happened, but I don't rule it out), I presume you've no problem lending it like me, the cost of the drive is a lot less than €50 (if more, demand higher; in multiples of €50. Nice crisp notes matter.), and all data on the drive is already backed up (so even if it accidentally erased everything it will not be a problem).

    Ammm....what

Yeah that poster doesnt really understand the concept of lifehacking. There was way too much speaking required for it to be a lifehack.

It's a pencil extender, not an exacto knife!

I use Derwent, but there are some very nice ones from Japan!

You can rotate your screen by pressing ctrl+alt+arrow key (up arrow is default). Comes in very handy sometimes.

Nope. The gas produced is carbon dioxide.
In fact they'd fall faster than those that you blew up yourself.

If you want to embed a Youtube video in a boards thread, take everything to the right of the '=' sign and surround it with Youtube tags:

Or if you have a screwdriver and a pliers.....take a screw from say a door hinge in your house screw it into the cork then use the pliers to pull the cork. put screw back in hinge then.
