IRISH JOBS FOR TOTAL ZOMBIES – AND BIG BRAINS

PopCap Games To Hire A Sunflower, A Zombie – And Lots Of Smart Techies

    May 18, 2011
    5:26am

May 16, 2011 – In what must surely be two of the most bizarre job opportunities to hit Ireland, PopCap Games, the worldwide leader in casual games, has announced that, among the many open positions at the Dublin-based videogames company, they are looking to recruit a “sunflower” and a “zombie”.
Successful candidates will be charged with taking on the roles of the arch-nemeses stars of PopCap’s hugely popular multi-platform game Plants vs. Zombies™ by taking to the streets at a series of public events throughout the year. The job descriptions involve bringing the undead to life and sunshine to the masses by playing the beloved game characters in real-life.
While zombies are renowned for their love of brains, PopCap has noted that it is not a requisite for the job. Similarly, applicants for the sunflower role will not be expected to produce sunshine – though this would be an advantage given Ireland’s temperamental climate.

Cathy Orr, PopCap’s senior director of international PR said, “When it came to casting the Plants vs. Zombies characters, we decided that rather than stick to a traditional promotional agency route, it makes sense for us to cast the net wider and go anywhere and everywhere to make sure we get the right cultural fit. It is a fun opportunity for the right individuals to showcase their acting talents, create some buzz and most of all, have fun!”

Closing date for entries is 15th June 2011. Interested parties should send their C.V., a brief cover note along with any supporting photos and/or videos illustrating why they are the perfect candidate for the job roles to pvzjobs@popcap.com. Please note that submitted images and videos become property of PopCap Games. They may be posted for public view on PopCap’s websites and social network pages but only subject to the candidate’s express permission.
And, if your qualifications are more technical, PopCap Dublin is also recruiting for a host of other games jobs including a Java engineer, three C++ engineers, an iOS producer, a game designer, a social localization project manager, a web/graphic designer, a security intern and a German social support. Interested parties should visit www.popcap.com or contact omurray@popcap.com for more information.

Plants vs. Zombies is a non-stop blend of fun-filled action, strategy and humour set in a world where plants are the last line of defence against the fun-dead. The recipient of two coveted Golden Joystick awards and two BAFTA nominations, it is the fastest selling iPhone/iPod strategy game of all time, selling 300,000 copies in the first nine days it was available on the App store.
